to be ohnest when i hear dual sim phone i think of the rip off "hIphones, Samsingg's, Nolka's and Motolola" which rip off the manufacturers of decent devices, maybe this is why nokia are distancing themselves from it all?
Samsung made a dual sim phone the DUOS, but i've only seen one store in dunstable sell them. (with 2 mandatory vodafone contracts, or simfree for £700) proof there is a need for it in some markets but not everywhere.

Hi, I'm from Italy
Even here in Italy we're waiting for a Nokia dual SIM phone, we love Nokia mobiles: the greatest and the easiest to be used even without reading the user's maual! Please give us a dual SIM so that we can get rid of the second phone, usually a low range one!!!

This topic caught my fancy and having read thru the full thread, I have this to say:
Those in favour have put forward many legitimate reasons why they want or need a dual-SIM phone. Some die-hards have openly expressed their love for the Nokia brand.
Others, on the other hand, do not see the need for a dual-SIM phone. Mostly, its to do with 'why would an operator subsidise the phone that would allow a SIM from a competitor?'
Therein lies the big problem our capitalist world is facing today. Major corporations have all but killed competition. The poor consumer is made to swallow what some executive sitting in a cormer office in Manhattan dictates.
But all is not lost. The rise of China & India would change the landscape. BTW, I'm not from either of those countries, but I notice their awakening. To the guys here who have been arguing that selling unlocked phones or phones directly to the consumer is a small market for companies like Nokia, I ask this:
Do you think that the number of phones, say Nokia, sells in all of Europe & North America is more than those it sells in, say India, China & Indonesia (combined population of close to 2.5 billion ppl)? I doubt so. The volumes are definately greater in Asia, what with most people carrying 2 (some like the gentleman from India said, 3) phones!
Also, agreed developing a phone model is an expensive affair and cusstomisation would only be done if sufficient numbers can be expected to be sold. So why does Nokia develop different language options? Are the numbers so large? Why develop phones specific to geographical markets?
The numbers are there .. we've got ppl from Asia asking for it, ppl in India &Pakistan united (for once!) asking for dual-SIM phones, Polish, Italians, Belgians all waiting eagerly for a Nokia dual-SIM model. Then, there are, ofcourse, some stuck in their old ways who bewilderly ask "Why would anyone need a dual-SIM model?"
To me, its just a decision that Nokia has to make. Its a bit like the heydays when Sony insisted that its Beta video format was the best (sure, it was technically superior) but found its market share eroding slowly until the day it discarded the Beta format and had to itself license the VHS format from its arch rivals. The day would come soon when the Nokia executives will stop believing their own hype and wake up to the real wants of the global consumer.

To all those out there wondering "Why have a dual sim phone" here's my reasons, which have nothing to do with costs, or competing providers etc ......
Banks and other institutions require your mobile number, and you have a password, and they send you unique pin codes every time you do an online transaction, so you need one number to ensure this stays constant for years and years.
Companies issue you with a phone and a sim card and which can only be used for company business. It has no International access, etc etc
Soooo....
If you dont have your "personal and long time" number/sim, as well as your work number/sim, all the time on you, and I really cannot carry 2 phones. As a woman, who works on a construction site, carrying 1 phone without pockets is hard enough.
I'm using a Samsung dual sim at the moment and I haaaaate it.
NOKIA please hurry up.

Ok then, since you people REAAAALLLLYYYY want a dual SIM Nokia phone, I have a suggestion for you. Go to local celphone forums for your countries and make some sort of post campaign. Then go post here something like the UK campaign thread in software update forum (check it out), and send an email to Nokia via the Contact Us button up top containing links to your local post campaigns and your campaign here. If there's enough of a demand, Nokia might give in.
personally though, I'd prefer two phones. Since music phones generally have bad camera's while camera phones have bad music, I get both. LOL.

includes these.

C2-00, dual SIM with dual standby capability

This is great news, I went to a West African country and business people there had a minimum of 3 phones so that they could be connected to at least one network and people put several numbers on their business cards, withthis dual sim phone they only need to carry 2 phones. 1 less phone would make a big difference

These models are aimed at developing countries, it is possible that they won't see much daylight outside Asia, Africa and perhaps Latin America.
You will note that only the C2-00 has proper dual-SIM capability whereby both SIMs are simoutaneously active and you can receive calls on both lines. The Series 30-based C1-00 is 'double-SIM', it holds two SIM cards but you have to switch between the two. For example, if you have your work and personal cards inside, and you are currently working so you have the work SIM selected, calls coming in on the other number will not reach the C1-00.

I don't think this is likely ever as Nokia's biggest customers are the networks who buy in millions of handsets in exchange for millions of pounds/dollars so the phones are designed around them.
