Except for the UK, most European countries have laws against selling SIM-Locked phones or the market is such that SIM-locked phones cannot be sold. One of the largest markets, Italy, does not have SIM-Locks, in fact, even the I-Phone and Storm are sold unlocked in Italy.
A dual SIM phone is used by companies that have international business and have contracts in two countries in order to minimise roaming rates. My company issued Qigi dual sim quad band phones (China Techfaith Cynthia phones) with Windows Mobile to people that travelm often to the US. Recently they bought and issued a number of Acer DX900s which are dual sim, quad band and are able to work in 3G in Europe and North America. Nobody seems to like either phone because Windows Mobile is a terrible and slow operating system so they are thinking about buying a new Samsung quad band dual sim, but it is not 3G.
If Nokia came out with a dual SIM quad band 3G phone they would make quite a few corporate sales and would also get much of the growing Asian market that wants dual sim phones exclusively.

My experience in New Zealand is one of having unlocked phones when I have renewed my contracts. More recently I signed up for a 3 network phone in Australia.
While the phone was locked at time of purchase there were no problems with having it unlocked even though they know that my other SIM card belongs to a different network.
To avoid carrying to phones a dual sim Nokia phone would be a great option for me.

I'm glad I don't have to go through what you guys in Europe have to go through. In South Africa since around '95 Pay as you go phones have been available and are the route most travelled.
Network supplied phones are locked to the particular network but it's very cheap to get another network or a cell phone repair shop to do it less then R200.
I would say about 95% of phones currently being sold here are not locked because the networks realised it's useless, Vodaphone even tried bringing out phones with their software on it that only worked with Vodacom and Vodafone sim cards but that didn't go far.
I personally like the idea of a dual sim phone because there is tough competition among the networks here. Vodacom has the best internet coverage, fastest speed and it's available all the time.
CellC on the other hand: I can talk for free on weekends, They give free minutes with all airtime purchses, internet browsing is free but it's not the best.
Because of this, a trend has developed where people have two phones or two sim cards. It's not unusual to see someone quickly changing their sim card for a two minute call.
I know South Africa needs dual sim phones but on the other hand we might not make up a large enough portion of Nokia's market.
I have only ever had Nokia phons and will not buy anything else anytime soon so I'll keep my two phones with both networks until Nokia Does something(I hope that is soon)

I don't understand why are you having this conversation in contradiction...some of us need Dual Sim, others don't! Just like any other feature a phone has to offer!
The question was simple, and we want an official answer if it's possible:
"When can we expect the first nokia dual sim mobile phone?"
I'm interested in buying a Dual Sim, but it must be a Nokia, so I'm on stand by right now...please hurry up! ![]()

I somehow was not interested in this topic, recently a neccessity arrived to me to a buy a DUAL SIM handset i felt the pinch that there is nothing Nokia has, the competition here in India has grown from corn to oak service providers have started to bill per second billing, in my case i have three SIM cards of different operators which i use one for Data services and two other for calling for which i need to pay 1p/1s which is great and cost-saving
In asian countries especially India and china DUAL SIM handsets are selling like hot cakes and now there are lot of new cell phone manufactures(ex Fly, Micrmax, karbonn heard of these names???) specially making only DUAL SIM handsets (Though With IMEI no), Samsung has one in their list and that is costly for a DUAL SIM feature, lot of small mobiles manufacturers have emerged targetting on this interesting feature
My point is i would like Nokia to release (only)one DUAL SIM handset and i am sure those recently emerged mobile manufacturers would be in danger
If a reply has solved your problem click Accept as solution button, doing it will help others know the solution. Thanks.

Untill then we can always try to find one of those dual sim holders that are all over the internet. Some look dodgey and I think a lot of them sound credible. I saw one a few weeks ago, that was specifically for Nokia phones.
They said you just have to insert and an extra menu item appears on the phone which is used to manage the sim card. No application installation.
I think it was from a link posted on this forum.

hi there,
could you tell me where did you find this dual sim holder? if it is like that i'm up for it! can't wait any longer for the nokia to release a dual sim phone (which i start thinking it won't happen in the near future...).
all the dual sim holders i find on the web are really strange and dodgey (need to cut cards and so on; also think one needs to turn off phone for 2nd sim card to activate)
thanks for any help! §
