N70, N72 and N90 are S60 2nd Edition models.
Also the 3250, 5500, E50, 60, E61 and E70 are S60 3rd Edition models (even if not in the Nseries).

If I do 'lsusb', it shows that the a Nokia device is connected, so SUSE has seen it, it just doesn't recognise it as a USB drive. Anyone have any suggestions how to get it to appear as a drive? Thanks a lot in advance,
Cheers, Tony.

So, SUSE Linux apparently sees the USB device, knows that it is a storage device, but still isn't able to mount it as a disk. I don't have any immediate idea as to what the problem is. Anyone else know? Thanks a lot in advance,
Cheers, Tony.

I have N72.. Do you mean that I cannot connect it to Linux as a USB modem since it is S60 2nd edition.. Is there any way to use N72 as USB modem to access internet through GPRS on Linux??

Also because I could not transfer files over on Linux system, I had to resort to find a Windows system, and I would like to point out that Nokia PC Suite fails greatly on the level of UI design, why do you guys have to design everything with assumption that users are idiots? Also it buries itself in system and is more like nagging Norton Anti-virus (which is another example of failure). Also transfer was horribly slow, and I am sure I read somewhere that it was USB 2.0 spec.
If I had Mass Storage support on that phone I would close my eyes on the fact that it crashes every second time while using video mode (and needs battery pulled out to reset - power button does not respond), and the whole phone is slow (which brings another software issue - but this time it is on the phone)....
Now when my friends ask me for advice on which phone to buy I will reconsider recommending Nokia (unless there is a software update for the phone that supports USB mass storage and which fixes all the slowness and crashes).
I am sorry if I offended anyone in this rant, but I have wasted over 10 hours trying to figure out how to make this phone work with my system, and I am pretty much frustrated to the point of having a desire to throw the phone out of the window. If you convert these 10 hours to what I could of earn on the job I would probably be able to buy another phone by now.

Another linux user chiming in to be counted.
I can use my phone (N95 8GB) as a storage device via USB and bluetooth, but i am still looking for solutions to:
- sync contacts and calendar
- manage pictures
- manage music
- make full phone backups and install new firmware.
So far i have found that:
- nokia supports SyncML for contacts and calendar syncing. There are a number of open source tools out there (OpenSync, Funambol) which might be able to help.
- i *think* the media player is MPI (Music Player Interface - a MS* "standard"?) compatible, and there are some solutions out there to manage mpi devices from linux using e.g. amarok.
Haven't looked into the other two yet.
In my opinion, nokia should *not* try to release a version of PC Suite for linux as it is simply a **bleep**tastic peice of software (sorry nokia devs, but then again who cares, it's not like writing software for windows is really a core competency of the Nokia corporation, is it?). Instead they should publish more information to allow open source devs to write their own clients, and they should make "touchy" stuff like firmware upgrades etc available straight to the phone (i.e. without requiring a pc - just using wifi or packet data. I think this might even be possible already, no?)
Just my two cents,
Regs,
/t
