Using Nokia 6822 as a modem

Has anyone managed to get Windoze to recognise the 6822 modem? I can happily connect via Infrared. Additionally, my old phone (6310i) works great as a modem but windows refuses to recognise the 6822.

You have to let it recognise it as a classic mobile phone (assuming you are usign windows XP) and then perform the "driver update" option from Device Manager using the .inf file from the web site.

Thanks for reply - actually it's a bit more involved (and my original post was not detailed enough). The 6822 modem is installed and appears in device manager, but if you try and query it (through device manager...modem properties...diagnostics) then it just returns "Couldn't open port". I've tried COM1 - COM5 all to no avail! And it doesn't report any device conflicts on the COM ports. (btw - Win2k unfortunately rather than XP).

how are you connected to the pc? do you use PC Suite as well? if you have the connection active in PC Suite try disabling it in connection manager then reboot your pc and query again

The connection is via infrared, and works great for backing up the sim data to the PC etc. via PC Suite. Also, the modem is listed as installed under PC Suite "Edit Modem Options". Interestingly, I cannot "configure" the infrared connecion in PC Suite connection manager as the configure button is disabled. The issue seems to be between modem driver and windows COM port......I'm totally puzzled!

Try disabling infrared in PC Suites connection manager. You cant use it as a modem and have an active connection with PC Suite

Fantastic! Thank you very much - this now works perfectly! Such a simple solution ..... why did I spend weeks re-installing modems, drivers, infrared software, .....
