My phone is paired to my computer and I can connect to it and read the contacts list using my bluetooth software. When I start Nokia PC Suite the phone is listed but none of the icons work - I can't use PC suite to edit contacts or sync my calendar etc. Error message says the phone did not respond.
When I go through the get connected menus PC Suite searches for my phone and finds it, I get the icons saying the phone is paired and trusted, but there is a message on the right saying "the phone needs to be connected" and the next button is diabled.
How do I solve this? It was all working until recently but failed last week.

Hi lorne,
I have same exact symptoms with my N85 and PC Suite 7.1.30.9 (Windows XP/Toshiba BT Stack).
The only way to get sychronized is to boot my computer and make the phone temporarily discoverable. After that, the Bluetooth connection works for a while, but is lost when the phone has been out of its range. Then I only get "the phone needs to be connected" message, but there's no way to initiate this "connection" from the Suite.

lorne & tommi_p,
That makes at least three of us. Never had bother with my E71 before but it will not talk to the PC today. I use a cable connection. Can't back up the phone so can't install the new software which is waiting for me! Does anybody have any answers?

Hi,
exactly the same here. (E61 and PC Suite 7.1.30.9.)
(BTW: reboot didn't help)
I fear we'll have to wait for a SW update...

Hi all
I do have an answer of sorts. Try uninstalling PC Suite and then reinstalling it. I did this and now everything is working again. Good luck!

"the phone needs to be connected" and the next button is diabled.PC Suite 7.1.30.9 (Windows XP/Toshiba BT Stack).
Hello all,
If you're using Windows XP (SP2 or higher) you might want to look at the solution suggested here:
http://www.vinsvision.com/Articles/tabid/66/EntryI
I had very good results after replacing Toshiba Bluetooth stack with the drivers in this patch. (You can have this driver in your laptop even if it's another brand, it's a widely used piece of software.)
The method I used was as follows:
1) Uninstall all Nokia software from PC
2) Uninstall Toshiba Bluetooth stack (from Add/Remove Programs Control Panel in Windows)
3) Reboot PC
4) At start-up, Windows will find new hardware and suggest installing drivers for Bluetooth adapter; IGNORE THIS and don't search drivers or install anything yet
5) Install the MSI-package from the link above
6) Let Windows install all drivers
7) Pair your Nokia device with PC using Windows Bluetooth software; if this works, all Bluetooth drivers were successfully installed to PC
7) Install latest Nokia PC Suite
8) Start using (hopefully) better working Bluetooth connections
For me at least, so far so good! Many sources quote Toshiba BT stack as "incompatible" with PC Suite, so this might be worth a try, if you're stuck and currently use those drivers.
