I work at Purdue University and they have campus littered with AP's. They have several ways of connecting to their wireless but the preferred method is to use what they call PAL2.0 (Purdue Access Link).
Instructiosn for PAL are located here for all kinds of OS's.
Menu > Tools > Settings > Connection > Access Points > PAL2.0 > Options > Edit >
Tried to follow the MAC example:
Connection name: PAL2.0
Data Bearer: Wireless LAN
WLAN Network Name: PAL2.0
Network Status: Hidden (they don't broadcast the SSID)
WLAN network mode: Infrastructure
WLAN Security Mode: 802.1x is as follows
- WLAN Security Settings
- WPA/WPA2
- EAP
- EAP Pluggin Settings
- EAP-PEAP
- Personal Certificate: Not Defined
- Authority Certificate: Thawte Premium Server Certificate
- Username in use: User Defined
- User name: My Purdue Credentials ;-)
- Realm in use: User Defined
- Realm: Blank
- Allow PEAPv0,1,2: YES (yes to all shouldn't hurt right?)
I also tried to follow the Windows example:
WPA config is as follows
- WLAN Security Settings
- WPA/WPA2
- EAP
- EAP Pluggin Settings
- EAP-PEAP
- Personal Certificate: Not Defined
- Authority Certificate: Thawte Premium Server Certificate
- Username in use: User Defined
- User name: My Purdue Credentials ;-)
- Realm in use: User Defined
- Realm: Blank
- Allow PEAPv0,1,2: YES (yes to all shouldn't hurt right?)
- NO MSCHAPv2 - ?, SHOULD THERE BE?
In the Windows example it shows on an XP client anyway that there should be some MSCHAPv2 settings. When I do try and connect I get an error saysing "authentication failed". I'm supposed to at one point put in my username and password but I don't ever get an opportunity to do so. Is this because there's no MSCHAPv2 setting on the Nokia E71? I looked everywhere and can't find it.
I have tweaked around and tried using EAP-TLS and then I get the prompt but it doesn't go anywhere, it just keeps prompting me. I suspect because that's not what protocol they're using but I thought I'd mess around with it anyway.
Any thoughts? This could be the definitive guid on getting the Nokia E71 working at Purdue University :-)
Thanks!

I JUST FIGURED IT OUT!!! I'm pumped!!!
I did some more looking on Nokia's site and the settings for EAP-MSCHAPv2 are a bit hidden. When you're in the edit screen looking for settings at the top right hand corner there is little tab section, you can push the thumb scroller right and I hadn't noticed it until reading the instruction below. The part I have highlighted in red below is the section you push the thumb scroller right for.
Nokia E71 - Settings - EAP-MSCHAPV2 settings
After all that simply using the Windows XP instructions will get you on the PAL2.0 Network at Purdue University.

Does anybody know how to set it up on N8?
I can't find the settings for EAP-MSCHAPv2 on my N8 and I have never been successfully connected to PAL2.0.
Can anybody please help?
Thx

I don't know if this is a Symbian ^3 thing or not, but I can't find it anywhere...
I used to have an E75 and followed the instruction percisely and got it to work, but it just doesn't work for my new N8...

When you are on the EAP-PEAP settings view you need to click on the arrow pointing right on top of the screen to reach inner authentication method selection view (tab named "EAPs").
Enable EAP-MSCHAPv2 from there and remember to disable EAP-SIM & EAP-AKA. Then edit the EAP-MSCHAPv2 settings with your username and password and set "prompt password" to No.
