Not able to connect N70 to laptop using USB

Hello,

I installed PC Suite 7.1 on my laptop running Vista 32 bit. When I plug the phone to the PC using USB, it is not able to install the drivers and throws the error 'Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device Nokia N70 USB Phone Parent. The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or it has no enabled devices associated with it'. It worked perfectly fine when I had PC Suite 7.0 in my PC. The device manager has Nokia N70 with yellow exclamation. I removed it, replugged the phone and still it comes back.

I reinstalled PC Suite, I went to control panel and uninstalled the nokia connectivity cable driver from there and I installed the driver from http://www.nokia.co.in/A4536208. I restarted the PC and I plugged the phone to the PC thru USB cable and I get the error: 'Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device Nokia N70 USB Phone Parent. The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or it has no enabled devices associated with it'.

Appreciate if anybody could help me.

Re: Not able to connect N70 to laptop using USB

Hi

it must be something wrong with drivers. Try to uninstal all Nokia applications, restart system, clean registry and install apps anew. This should help I hope.

Re: Not able to connect N70 to laptop using USB

Thanks GL for your reply. Apparently, I've uinstalled the PC Suite, Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver and PC Connectivity Solutions from Add/remove programs and also downloaded and ran the Nokia PC Suite Cleaner 7.1.1 after that. Then, I reinstalled PC Suite 7.1. Still no luck. Whenever I plug the phone to the laptop, it searches for the drivers and ultimately fails to install the drivers. When checking the Device Manager, there will be Nokia N70 with yellow exclamation under Wireless or under Other Devices with yellow exclamation. I delete them and try to reinstall the drivers, no go. I had also tried downloading and installing Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver. Still no luck. Not sure, why the drivers are not been detected.

To add further, there is one line 'The service Cannot be started, either because it is disabled or becuase it has no enabled devices associated with it' in the error window. Not sure which service needed to be enabled. I haven't done any changes to the settings in my PC.

Reeza_
do you have some other Nokia apps besides NPC Suite (NSU, NML, NPhotos, Ovi, etc.). Have you uninstalled it all and cleaned registry?
Sometimes it helps. I have had similar problem like you. My notebook (I have Vista HP 32 too) refused to recognise my device after PCS 7.1 installing. I had to cleaned all very precisely. Now all is OK.

It's happened to me not only first time and not only wit 7.1

Try this.

Good Luck

Re: Not able to connect N70 to laptop using USB

Hello,

I don't have any other Nokia apps installed in my PC except the PC Suite 7.1. I haven't installed any other Nokia apps in my PC. The issue started only after PC Suite 7.1 installed. Earlier, when I had PC Suite 7.0, it worked fine.

Then try to install Nokia Software updater, which has USB connection drivers. Maybe Nokia map loader too. You will have then all needed drivers.
If this doesn't help, it will means, that in v.7.1 appears some non-removable issue after install on your pc. It can be bound up with your pc configuration (patches, updates, drivers).
Install just old v.7.0 NPCS and wait for new 7.1 version. I suppose quite soon, or install Nokia Ovi Suite and Nokia Comunication Center 2.0. It can replace Nokia PCSuite.

Re: Not able to connect N70 to laptop using USB

Sorry to ask, but how to install Nokia Software updater? Is there any download link? Is there any other way to do a clean install of PC Suite?

My N70 firmware version is

V 5.0609.2.0.1
01-03-06
RM-84

Does this issue have anything to do with the firmware? Also, is it suggested to upgrade my firmware from the existing one? I have read some articles about issue cropping up after firmware upgrade. Right now, I don't have any major issues with my phone, except some slowness sometimes.

Reeza_

Everything you find on www.Nokia.com or on google.

NSU - go here http://europe.nokia.com/A4579163 or find on www.nokia.com similary web side for your country and download NSU

Here http://europe.nokia.com/A4579163 or better on your nokia nation web side you can check software update.

There are different opinions about soft update. Read first about updates for N70 on this forum.
This is the last SW V5.0705.3.0.1 available via NSU.

I don't know, does the update solve your connections problem? Software shouldn't be a cause for you problem, but who knows.

Remember one thing, you can not reverse software for older one, you've had before update!!!

Before update do memory backup, because upgrade mostly ereases your private data and settings.

Re: Not able to connect N70 to laptop using USB

Thanks hieronim69 for your inputs. To be frank, I'm reluctant to update the firmware in my phone, because I've found a vast number of complaints from persons who have done that and their phones are not working as expected. Something or the other goes wrong. And once updated, it cannot be reversed. So, I'm ruling out that option.

Any idea what does the error message 'The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it' means? I get this error when I plug in my phone to the PC and it searches for the driver and ultimately this error pops up. Does any service in the PC/phone needs to be enabled?

Thanks in advance

You can check phone in Menu-Tools-Connections.

But if after connection pc is looking for drivers try to point localisation, where drivers should be.
Mostly they should be in the folder Nokia in Program Files on drive C:Vista.

Try to install Nokia Ovi Suit, this is a other kind of Nokia PC Suite and Nokia Comunication Center 2.0

Is yor Vista fully updated?

Re: Not able to connect N70 to laptop using USB

I had pointed to C:\program Files\Nokia\Connectivity Cable Drivers, but no way, the drivers installed. I checked in Nokia site and see that Nokia Ovi suite is not compatible with N70. So i I havent installed it.

Re: Not able to connect N70 to laptop using USB

Sorry, I couldn't help :smileysad:

Install some older version of PCSuite and wait for new edition.
You should try to contact Nokia directly, maybe they will help you in your problem.

Re: Not able to connect N70 to laptop using USB

Not sure whether I have done it. I think yes. Anyway, will give it a try and see.

I'm planning to perform these steps:

1) Uninstall Nokia PC Suite, PC Connectivity Solution and Nokia Connectivity Cable driver from Add/Remove programs
2) Run the Nokia PC Suite Cleaner.
3) Reinstall Nokia PC Suite.

I will update once these are done.

It is ok, but after this clean system registry too. Install CC Cleaner, you find it in google.

I wish you good luck.
