First off, I am not a real 'techy', however, I have seached both this forum and various Nokia forums on the internet to no avail.

I am using a Linksys WRT54G router at home with no encryption. I have no problems establishing a wireless connection with my Nokia E61 or with any of the 3 laptops in the house.

However, I find that while using the E61's web-browser, it tends to disconnect after a page is loaded. Usually within a minute of it being loaded it will issue the 'Disconnected' warning.

Sometimes, if I try to click the 'back' button or try to open a new link/another web address, it would behave as though it is loading that page then return 'Disconnected' (or occassionally 'No Gateway Reply').

If I click the 'back' button again or link, it will then show me the 'Connecting via linksys'message and load the page.

My question are Why is this happening and how can I stop it from disconnecting every minute?

I know from previous posts that the default response may be about my router, but I somehow suspect that it has to do with my E61, since every other device that uses that router experiences nothing like it.

Have you tried disabling power saving on the E61? Check in Settings-Connections-WirelessLAN-Options-Advanced Settings-Power Saving.

or maybe place the ip address of the router in the access point setting on the phone?

I have exactly the same problem - using a Linksys WAG54GX2. I've also tried a DLink router - same problem. This must be the E61 and I think my phone is faulty.

I have N80 and I had same issues with no gateway response,
allthough I had router configured to establish connection with PPPoE (bridged = windows asks for username ´n password for connection)
While I had this method used, I got all the time "no gateway response" message from my phone.
There was no matter if wifi settings were for open, web, wpa and so on. All those still gave error. And phone needs to be quite close to router...for signal lost.

So I had to configure router again, with PPPoE with username and password into router so it, goes straight to web. Some how I figured out that nokia needs to get directly to web and I got it working.

First I reset router then removed all encryption from wifi.
Then began with router. Config to Routing mode.
Username and password into settings.
Enable DHCP for router.


Then wifi. First wifi open network for testing. All works fine, At last.
Then WPA encryption to wifi settings for phone, only WPA settings to phone.

I hope these might help.

Hi guys

Have been trying for several days to get Wifi access on my E61. I set up Access Points , Bookmarks etc but still get "No Gateway Reply" error message.

I have tried to access several different WiFi spots and therefore the problems must be my phone setup. I have read the posts here and am not a techie. I do not access to the routers so I cannot do anything to them.

The Wifi spots are public and no te phone can see them and connect to them, but as soon as I try and access the Web, I get the error message.

Would sincerely appreciate any assistance. I am on the road all the time and if this works, it will make life much simpler for me. BTW, I am in working in China, so tech support in english here doesn't really exist.(great place though!!)

Hi,
I have some good and bad news.

I recently upgraded my LINKSYS WRT54GS v5 access point to sw release 1.50.9 and after that Internet access with the browser was no longer possible. I just got an error message in the browser "No Gateway reply". This happaned both with my N80 and E61, but all my Windows XP laptops operated normally.

Good news is that when I reflashed the LINKSYS Access Point back to previous sw release (1.5.0.8), everying worked again.

Try to get on hold of an older sw release for the AP until AP vendors and/or Nokia fix the interoperability issue.

hi, u might want to try upgrading or downgrade to firmware v5. which is version 1.0.06.

i encountered "no gateway" error when i upgraded to firmware v6 for the linksys wrt54g.

but disabling the power save for wlan has seemed to resolved the issue (atleast the last one hour :-) )

I also encountered this problem of "web: no gateway error" when connecting to my secured home wireless Netgear router. There is no problem with other unsecured network or wireless@sg with SingNet. (:

The solution is:
1. Set up the Access Point with the SSID and WEP key correctly entered on your Nokia E61.
2. Access the router admin page through your pc.
a). Enable DHCP server.
b). Assign an IP address for E61 within the specified range of IP addresses (ie. a number between the starting and ending IP addresses allowed, if applicable).
c). Key in the Mac Address of your E61 for the IP address you just assigned (this can be found inside E61 with the battery removed).
3. If Access Point via Wireless is specified for "Trusted PCs only", key in the Mac Address of your E61.

These should work on any wireless router. The idea is to enable the router to recognise the identity of your E61 through the setup of the later's Access Point.

also in my E 61 network problemis also recurring continuously.

I feel E 61 is a faulty phone.

Also Nokia people do not support

I have the same problem with my E61, No Gateway Reply error, I got it to work for almost a year now with the switching off of the powersave of the Wifi, but a few days ago I upgraded my E61 firmware to the latest version and now its not working. Disabling the powersave is also not helping this time. My router is the same as always no change there, so it must be some problem on the Phone software. Opera Mini browser work though, but not the default and not my e-mail.
