Hey and good afternoon here,
I recently purchased the Nokia 6700 classic which had the CA-101D USB Cable inside the box. Using the phone, I can use the data storage and media modes easily when connecting the phone to my computer.
However, the PC Suite mode does not seem to work so well.
After a successful installation and update of PC Suite 7.1 (It's supported version), I followed the steps to connect the phone. After connecting the phone, I get the message and bar that the cable drivers are being installed. After waiting for over an hour for this step to complete, it has not done so. I have reinstalled the program and restarted the computer multiple times, but it has the same effect.
However, when changing the phone to data storage or media modes, the PC Suite program detects the phone. This is thwarted by choosing any option in PC suite, where the phone mode is changed to PC suite mode and the phone 'disconnects' and pops up the "Found New Hardware" window.
I am using Windows XP, SP3.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Sean

Hope this will be fixed soon.
Or has anyone been able to get this to work?

Got a new 6700 yesterday and tried to connect to computer running Windows vista, using data cable in order to upload phone content of a Nokia 6300. The 6300 connectivity has always been fine but the 6700 fails to connect when in PC suite mode. Have reinstalled PC suite software several times, rebooted phone, tried Ask on conn. setting, get various messages like "USB device not recognised" or in the PC suite Nokia content copier "No phones are connected". When PC suite on the computer does recognise the phone, it is always in "incompatible mode" or "File transfer Mode". I have spent hours on this issue and am fast losing patience. Can anyone help?

I have the same problem. PC Suite telling me that phone is in data transfer mode (whatever that means - I have chosen PC Suite opton on the phone every time) or that there is an incompatible connection.
Nokia needs to wake up and answer this problem.

Unfortunately, I cannot download the pcsuite from the phone because the PC isn't picking it up! I could attempt to use the phone's internet connection to mail it to myself, but i'm trying to save that as a last desperate method.
I've used the FW checker and the version of the phone matches the latest version available.
Futhermore, I've gone as far as to remove the current (updated) version of the software and install PC Suite using the version found on the default 1gb SD Card of the 6700 Classic to no avail.
If push comes to shove, I'm going to have to try and locate a Nokia help point somewhere, but this isn't good service from Nokia at all.

I am having the exact same problem with my brand new 6700. Every time I connect it up, a new hardware added wizard comes up, saying its a USB 2.0 Device, but then it is not recognised. I have the most recent version of PC Suite installed and also the correct cable drivers. I am going to uninstall everything and start again but this is very frustrating. I want to put the backed up content from a 3110 onto my new 6700, but if reinstalling the software from scratch doesnt work, then I'll be bringing the 6700 back to the shop and getting a different phone.

Just went through a very long removal of my old nokia software and drivers, and an installation of Ovi Suite (after installing the latest version of microsoft .net framework, which was specified as a pre requisite for installing Ovi Suite) which was recommended as the software for the 6700 from the Nokia site.
But...
STILL the exact same problem when trying to connect, very disappointing.
Back to the shop with it tomorrow... unless a response is posted here (unlikely, given that other people have asked about the problem already with no response).

I had anwser from Nokia support.
Delete ALL nokia software from your computer using the configuration screen --> software delete.
Not only the PC suit but all the nokia related software.
Then use the Nokia suite PC cleaner
http://europe.nokia.com/A41507719
Then disable your firewalls and reinstall PC suit
http://europe.nokia.com/A4144905
This worked for me on my laptop and other PC
This was for nokia europe so maybe you need an other version of pc suit.

I have a 6700 Classic but have broken the screen so I cannot see anything on the phone. I am trying to use PC Suite to back up my phone before buying a new one. I too have got to the point where I need to connect the phone to the PC, but then when I do it tells me the phone is in file transfer mode and cannot be connected.
Can anyone tell me what sequence of button presses I need to do on the phone to exit file transfer mode and get PC Suite to work?

I have excatly the same problem - my screen is broken. I've already been able to backup my data... now that I'm trying to check messages using PC Suite, it tells me the phone is in file transfer mode. I can see the bottom half of the screen, so if I have some idea what this means, I might be able to get the phone out of file transfer mode.
