No Modem Found on 6070

I purchased a Nokia 6070 with a data cable CA-42, downloaded the latest PC suite and installed into my Windows XP Laptop. When asked I connected the phone to the cable and laptop. The laptop sees the phone but when i try to connect to the internet it say "No MODEM FOUND". When i checked the website it says the modem drivers would be installed automatically but apparently not. How would i be able to connect to the internet?

Re: No Modem Found on 6070

If it is any comfort I have exactly the same problem with a 6610i. I think it is using a non Nokia cable that may be causing the problem.

Re: No Modem Found on 6070

The Nokia brand CA-42 cable and downloaded PC suite does not work for me with my 6070. "No phone connected". I have tried everything but to no avail. What is wrong with it Nokia. Please help us out. I assume the modem won't work either or aythig else for that matter given the amount of effort I have put into trying to get it to work. It obviously requires a software fix and Nokia can't be bothered to help it's customers by FIXING THE SOFTWARE!!!!!!. PS: NOKIA, THIS IS A HINT!!! PLEASE FIX THE SOFTWARE SO the 6070 works with the NOKIA BRAND CA-42. Thanks

Re: No Modem Found on 6070

Boss,I am also facing the similar problem with 6070. I have downloaded latest PC Suit 6.84 from website and purchased CA-42 cable. I am successful in installing the software and am able to establish the communication between my XP PC & 6070. But when I try to use my 6070 as modem I am unsuccessfull.I am able to see different nokia modems in 'Phone & modem' options but all the models are of blue tooth support and 6070 model is nowhere in the list. I have installed 1)PC connectivity bluetooth modem & 2) Nokia blue tooth modem in COM5 with a hope that they may support 6070, but in vain. No modems are displayed in Nokia PC Suit- connect to internet- option.Even in settings ,No modems are listed. I was hanged up at this place. Any successful users of 6070 as modem, please guide me to go further in successful use of my 6070 as modem.Nokia should do something regarding this as many are facing this problem with 6070 as modem. Please reply soon.
Thank you

Re: No Modem Found on 6070

Many users have Nokia 6070 connection problem using CA-42 with PC and having access to Internet. Even after installing newer version PC suite, you will never see the modem in the list. It might be a bug in driver or what so ever, which needs to be fixed by Nokia people.

Anyway.

Here is work around and steps.

It works for me (after a week struggle off course!!) and works for any version of Windows (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 98, Windows ME) whatever version you have.

1) Download a newer version of PC suite from Nokia site. Install in your machine.
If you do not want PC suite, do not perform this step.

2) Connect your phone with PC using CA-42

3) Open Control Panel > System > Device Manager

4) Expand “Ports (Com & LPT)”. You will see there “Nokia CA-42 (COM4) or the next COM port available in your system.

5) Right click > Properties > Port settings > Advanced > Change COM port number to COM10 > Ok

Steps 4) and 5) are optional but recommended. Useful to avoid port conflict.

6) Open PC suite > Manage Connections > Uncheck all connections > Close

PC suite will show the warning and will loose the connectivity with phone because you changed the port in step 5) and cleared phone connection. This is very essential to release COM port.

7) Now open Control Panel again > Phone And Modem Options > Modems

8) Add > ticket “Don’t detect my modem, I will select it from list” > Next

9) Select Manufacture “Nokia” , on right side scroll down to “Nokia 3200 cable”

Yes “Nokia 3200 Cable”. :smileyhappy: Do not hope for Nokia 6070 to be appeared in the list. It will never display. Nokia 3200 driver will work with 6070.

10 ) Click Next > In “Selected ports” list, select “COM10” > Click Next.

11) You will see “Nokia Cable 3200” is showing in modem list. > Click Properties.

12 ) Diagnostics > Query Modem > You will Nokia 6070 in scroll box.

Bingo!! Modem has been setup

Its time to connect with internet. Very important DO NOT try to connect with PC suite using “Connect to Internet (One Touch Access). You will “No Modem Found” and you cant connect at all.

Instead follow these steps:

1) Open Control Panel > Network Connections > Create a new connection.
2) Connect to Internet > Setup connection Manually > Connect using Dialup modem

Steps may differ here according to XP and Vista but choose “Dial up modem”

3) Type ISP name (anything)
4) Phone number (Ask your mobile operator)
5) User name and password (Ask your mobile operator) > Next > Finish

6) You will see connection has been made > Double click and Connect.

You will diffidently access internet and able to connect.

When you want to use PC Suite, simply disconnect internet connection and enable “CA-42” connectivity in “Manage Connections” in PC Suite.

Best of luck!!!

Re: No Modem Found on 6070

Thank you so much for giving important and elaborate information which was gained from the efforts you have made.
The problem is, After installing the latest PC Suit, all the Nokia models displayed are of "Blue Tooth" support only. Isn't it? And there is no Nokia modem displayed as 3200 cable. The nearest ones available are 3230,3250....etc.That too only Bluetooth modems. please guide me how to obtain 3200 cable modem & with which version of Nokia PC Suit. I am using the latest one downloaded from the web site i.e. 6.84.
Hoping an early solution to my Problem.
Thanks very much.

Thank you very much. Atlast I am successful in using my Nokia 6070 as modem for connecting Internet. Most of the Bluetooth Modems available in the list are supporting 6070. Ex. 3230, Nokia phone blue tooth modem, PC connectivity Blue tooth modem etc. I am very happy and thank 'mobilepro'in special for giving me a detailed navigation. Of course the data transfer is slow but still I am managing with patience, as we cannot get much more from Nokia 6070. Is original CA-42 cable will help in increse of speed. I am using a local one purchsed for 250 bucks. Nokia original is costing 1700 and odd. Any way thanks one and all. Feel free to put any questions to me regarding Nokia 6070 problems which I will surely the little knowledge I have over it. Bye every one. This is your friend from Vizag

Re: No Modem Found on 6070

Mr. Gowri sankar,
Follow the navigation given by "mobilepro" in reply No. 12 You can install as your modem from any of the blue tooth modem available in the list.eg. Nokia 3230 bluee tooth modem or Nokia PC connectivity blue tooth modem or Nokia blue tooth modem (the last two modems in the list). Those will work for 6070 model. Carry on and wish you all the best.

Re: No Modem Found on 6070

Hello
Thanks for hte very valuable information. I was able to setup a modem using bluetooth nokia 3200 but am not sure which number to dial. I gave my own phone number. However, when I try to access it starts calling my own phone number and then obviously hangsup.Mobilepro says ask the ISP for the phone number but the ISP(Airtel) just asked me to put my own phone number. I am trying to use GPRS connection and ISP gave Mobile_office as acccount name and my phone number as username.
Any help will be appreciated else I will have to return the phone tomorrow morning.
