MTP device won't install

I wanted to install Ovi for my new N86-8mp, I continuously get the nmessage that my MTP device won't install, a bit of a nuisance since I want to use Nokia music. Th new hardeware wizard says something like: right section not found in INF section (in dutch...) Hardware manager shows some problems as wellin in CDC Comms manager.

I have tried the following: uninstall PC suite, remove folder 10208913 on private,  total reboots several times.WinXP profSP3

Similar problem on same system with my new N97 mini. The message "Found new hardware - MTP Device" keeps popping up in the system tray. The messagecomes regardless of connection mode. I have uninstalled pc suite. I have rebooted. I have windows media player 11.

When I disconnect the phone from the usb I get the message:

"A problem occured during hardware installation ....!

Re: MTP device won't install

OVI is still in full development. Uninstall OVI and all the Nokia related driver software. Clean the registry. Restart the PC and download the latest version of Nokia PCSuite. Install as admin and connect the phone when you're asked. Don't use USB hubs.

Re: MTP device won't install

I have also done as advised on the previous SOLVED comment. i uninstalled all the software and used the PC cleaner from Nokia.

then I reinstalled the Ovi suite and it works fine.

But the problem is that the "Comes with music" -service with the Ovi player is not working. It just says that the MTP USB needs to be installed and does not install.

Any solutions?

Re: MTP device won't install

I have a Nokia N97 and i also have the endless "new hardware found - MPT device"  message. I have uninstalled both an old pc suite version and the new nokia ovi suite, deleted registry entrys and then re-installed the new software and connected the device only when prompted. Since i have DU meter, I noticed ovi suite downloaded a big chunk of information (aprox 7 minutes at full 3mbps, nothing else was being downloaded)  before endlessly popping the "new hardware found..." sign.  I have a print screen fom the task manager for you to get a glimps at the aproximate cpu usage for each process when the error appearing in case it helps, the bad thing is that i do not seem to be allowed to attach images.

Thank you and forgive my english since its not my mother tongue.

Re: MTP device won't install

Hello all

For some time I have been plagued with this problem of the continuous "Found new hardware MTP Device" bubble when connecting my N97. I think it started when I installed Nokia Ovi Suite or Ovi Player on my laptop, but then I assume they were the first applications to need MTP anyway.

I was just about to take off Nokia Suite, Ovi Suite and all associated drivers and redo it all, but then I spotted the notes about the 'Private' folder 10208913 being deleted to resolve the problem.

To start with I tried removing my additional memory card from the N97 and connected N97 to the laptop. Hey presto, MTP installed OK - problem gone away.

I then reinstalled my memory card into the N97, problem back, no bubble but Media Transfer wouldn't work. So I connected the N97 in 'Mass Storage' mode and browsed the memory card to find the Private folder and then found 10208913 and deleted it.

I then reconnected in 'PC Suite' mode and everything is now fine. All the function of Ovi Suite is fine and Nokia Ovi Player is fine too.

Re: MTP device won't install

Thanks PeterS15!!! I've been having this problem ever since I bought my N96, more than a year ago!!! I just disabled MTP, since I didn't use it for nothing, but now with Ovi Player needs it... so again I tryed to find a solution, hoping that maybe Nokia had come up with an official explanation... Well, no, but the procedure you said solved it!!! The only difference was that I had to delete this folder not only in my memory card, but also in the mass storage memory of the phone... I cannot believe it, that more than one year later I will finally no longer see the "Drivers were NOT installed for your device" message!!! Thanks!

Re: MTP device won't install

Hi all....

Just in case you are uninstalling and reinstalling all sorts of software... and folders... just try the following first....

The N97 has a nasty little habit of "locking" your memory card, EVEN though you did it at boot time... If you go in (even AFTER reboot) thru' the file manager and unlock it that way, then you may find it works.....

For the sake of 20 seconds, and before swearing and deleting and cleaning, give it a try...... Worked for me...

Just a thought.....

Comes into the same category as it suddenly not wanting to read the mass memory......

Cheers all.... Let me know if that works for you as it did me....:smileyhappy:

Re: MTP device won't install

I've had a similar problem with my X6. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Ovi Suite and Player, looking in the Mass Memory for the numbered folder (which wasn't there), digging about in the registry, and installing the .inf file mentioned in other threads, all to no avail. What worked for me was reinstalling Windows Media Player. I can now sync my music in WMP and Ovi Player, even the DRMed music I got with my £20 Nokia Music voucher.

Re: MTP device won't install

I've recently had the problem with my 5800xm & the failure to install the MTP driver issues.

When I first got my phone it would connect in media transfer mode & sync music from WMP with no problems whatsoever. It had been a while since I synced music to my phone & after ripping some new cds, I wanted to transfer them to my phone. Herein started all the MTP driver problems.

I tried allsorts to rectify the problem over several days, various installs/un-installs of Nokia PC Suite & Ovi Suite (going against everything I hate about Ovi, but they are not related to this post), installing MTP drivers direct from Microsoft, messing about with my PC's registry among the many things I tried.

Hunted high & low through these forums to find a solution, but just kept going round & around in circles, all suggesting the same remedies as above, all with the same result - no avail.

Then I finally chanced upon this very thread, tucked away in "connectivity". The only new solution was to locate the 10208913 folder in 'private' on the phone & SD memory card.

At this point I was willing to do anything to save my sanity from this problem that was becoming increasingly irritating to me.  Anyway, located & deleted said folder and honestly I wasn't expecting it to make a difference. Connected my phone via USB, the little balloon popped up "installing device driver software... Searching preconfigured folders"...

"not all this again" was my thought... and then...

"device driver successfully installed"

Staring at the screen I was expecting to open my eyes and see my girlfriend waking me up with a cup of tea, as seeing that message must have meant I was dreaming!

So, after all this it came down to two silly little folders on the phone & memory card....

I can only wonder what has happened to Nokia not to have picked up on this issue and created an update or patch to resolve this problem. How many more people are there with this problem that have little knowledge of how to find the folders and delete them, and have resigned themselves to the fact that syncing music is not possible anymore and have dented their confidence in Nokia.

Anyway, thanks for the help & saving my sanity everyone! :smileyvery-happy:

Re: MTP device won't install

Plus, I suppose you need to have hacked your phone to get access to the private folder on the phone! Mine's not... Bah humbug

Re: MTP device won't install

I had the same problem with my Nokia N97 when I updated the Nokia PcSuite to 7.150.2 & recently my Nokia OviSuite to 2.2.0.245 on Windows Xp sp3. It use to install all the drivers and then keep on installing the MTP driver! What I did then was unplug the usb cable when it kept on installing the MTP driver then switch your phone off & on. Then plug the usb cable back into the phone and the MTP driver was installed & that annoying 'Found New Hardware' 'MTP Device' disappeared and solved my problem. NB! Always Restart after a new installation of Nokia PcSuite/Ovisuite. Check if your PcSuite Support on your handset is UptoDate by going to 'Help' in Nokia Pc Suite then 'Reinstall PcSuite Support'.

Re: MTP device won't install

Ok, here's the solution.

My computer is running on Xp-SP3.

Go to "Add or Remove Programs",

then Un-Install all the Nokia Stuff - all of it,

select the Windows Media Player and click "Remove" -

Don't worry!!!!

Windows Media player won't be deleted, just downgraded to a previous version,

stay within the  "Add or Remove Programs" list

Select "Windows Media Format 11 runtime" and click "Remove",

confirm and then restart your PC.

Download the OVI-Suite from the Web Page (do not use the CD) and install OVI-Suite.

Install also the OVI-Player from the Web Page.

Restart PC.

Open OVI-Player, connect your phone and try to move a mp3 file directly into the phone's directory - then update your phone's music library

Good Luck!!!!

Re: MTP device won't install

I keep having the same MTP device problem... I can't find the 10208913 folder that everyone is talking about.... Can you tell me how to find it? ... If I connect my phone in Mass Storage mode, it will only load the Memory Card or will it also load the Phone Memory?

Thanks.
