E70 Bluetooth Conection with Volvo S80

I have just changed my 6230i for a new E70. The 6230 would pair with the Bluetooth system on my Volve S80 and worked fine. I could access the phone book, it syncronised and all the functions worked as they should. I can't get the E70 to even pair with the car.

When I activate the pairing option on the car a little bluetooth icon appears in brackets on the phone display so the are communicating but the car then says it can't find the device.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to sort this.

Re: E70 Bluetooth Conection with Volvo S80

Hi

Probably the car software requires updating. I believe for BMW with I.drive it is getting to a stage where the number of updates required is seriously impinging on workshop time!
Happy to have helped the forum in a small way from 2007-10

Re: E70 Bluetooth Conection with Volvo S80

The car is only three weeks old so it is unlikely that there will be a software update from Volvo. I am in the process of checking that but all the bits I have come across on the web would seem to point to a problem with the software on the phone.

Re: E70 Bluetooth Conection with Volvo S80

Same problem here,
Volvo S80 2 weeks old
Nokia 6230i crashed,
bought a new Nokia E70 today,
and it has the latest firmware 3.0633.09.04
(20-11-06 RM10)

When trying to connect the car with the phone
(menu-item in the car)
at the end off the search I see also 2 closing brackets
around the bluetooth symbol in the upper right corner off the Nokia E70 screen.

Is there a solution available?

Re: E70 Bluetooth Conection with Volvo S80

I have a new S80 too and a new E50 phone with exactly the same problem.

It renders the cars in built Bluetooth hands free useless.

Hope it can be sorted!

Re: E70 Bluetooth Conection with Volvo S80

My problem is SOLVED !!!

Visited the Volvo Workshop.
Since 19/04/07 there is new software available
for the BMP module (Bluetooth)
Reference number 30775613 (about 995 Kb)

My E70 works now fine with the Volvo Bluetooth carkit in the S80.
Also the quality has improved: less driving noise !

I'm sure this is helpful information.

Re: E70 Bluetooth Conection with Volvo S80

Hi,

I have a Volvo S80 with the same car-kit and update
and bought a Nokia E70 phone.
It connects with Bluetooth but I cannot use the
car phone dialing system (then the connecton breaks)
and there is no phone book in the car.
Seems it only works one-way (from the phone).
I understood everything works fine with you
so I wonder if you know what could be the reason ?

Thks

Re: E70 Bluetooth Conection with Volvo S80

Bought the same car and have the same phone. During the test drive I was very impressed that it linked right away. Later to realise that the compatibility is just 5% and intermitten for answering call.

It was August when I bought the car and you mentioned that the update that works was in May and still it did not work here in Singapore.

There is no subsequence posting from you, will you confirm that your problem was solved as you mentioned.

Geertvb

Hi, the problem is not one way, both ways are not working properly, the first answered call worked fine, but not the call that followed. You will need to turn bluetooth off then on, on your mobile. Bluetooth on the car will be disconnected, just by pressing ENTER it reconnects, else you will not hear the caller. You can try.

Calling out will make the bluetooth disconnect, but good thing is, it will reconnect by pressing ENTER and the call will resume.

Re: E70 Bluetooth Conection with Volvo S80

Updated S80 firmware on 29th Jan 2008 and E70 is able to make and receive calls. Volvo bluetooth compatibility list had E61 as closest match to E70. E70's latest phone firmware is rev 2. while E61 is rev 3.

But E70 works, less the call list and phonebook. For phonebook it says partial and manual contact input. How to do that? Ascertain that the contact has only one phone number, mobile or fixed line, email acceptable but postal address is no no.
Use mark/unmark to select these contacts then send via bluetooth.

Make sure the contacts are correct before sending to S80 as there is no way to amend it. Remove "My Car" connection and start all over again maybe the only solution.

Synchronisation does not work even contacts were just name and mobile contact only.

Re: E70 Bluetooth Conection with Volvo S80

Another syntax error- if there are spaces between string of contact number, eg. +65 1234567 it will not be sent to the phonebook. Where batch of contacts were marked, conforming contacts will be sent successfully.

Re: E70 Bluetooth Conection with Volvo S80

Yesterday I got my S80 brand new from the garage.

Of course, E61 doesn't work with bluetooth, despite newest SW 3.0633.09.04 in my phone.

Not working: Phonebook copy, caller's lists copy ... nothing works, except the first step (PIN approval OK).

Volvo says one should try copying phonebook entries manually ... what they mean by that?

Any hints (also on necessary OPP version) wellcome.

Good luck to everyone who will keep driving Volvo S80 and phoning with Nokias!

Re: E70 Bluetooth Conection with Volvo S80

Hi sokac12,

Two prior posts 10 and 11, explain how it was done and the little pitfalls one should avoid. E70 and E61 are very similar platform and functions.

Based on E70, select frequent contacts that you will likely to call from the S80, duplicate those contact if you have to, remove all other input fields except names and (one) contact number (and ascertain that there is no space here). Company names and email addresses ok. Include as suffix with (h), (w), (r) for mobile ,work and residence.

Now having connected to the My Car as you have done, go to contacts-> find "(" listing all the contacts that you wish to OPP to the car. Review list as not to include non conforming contacts by marking all and unmark the latter. Press option-> Send-> To bluetooth-> Select My Car. There you have it.

Re: E70 Bluetooth Conection with Volvo S80

Hi Ilych
thanks fro your hints, which I will try next week (Volvo must update to the newest Bluetooth firmware first, but I doubt this will solve the problem).

Regarding selecting/sorting entries for copying via OPP,there is an easier way to do so by first copying to the SIM card memory (mine is limited to 250 entries). E61 does this already (1 phone number for one name) by copying from phone memory to SIM (standard function). If more phone numbers under same entry, it creates more entries with single number.

In Nokia forums, one can find an utility to prepare and copy from S60 phones (E61 one of them) to Nokia BT car kit called "810". All sorting and syntax checks are done by this utility (freeware). I think it is worth of try, have a look at "http://www.expansys.ch/ft.aspx?k=97853" where some people explained how to do it for N50 (also a S60 phone).

For another problem (caller's lists) Volvo still have no solution, I guess ... so Gerry Keaney, Senior Vice President for Marketing Sales and Customer Service will be soon under fire - stay tunned!

Give up, there is little bugs like random 1st call not get through. Chosen from among the list where there is 99%compatible, that is blank on the last column of list. The SE W880i works find and have gotten 2 multi sim card to allow use of pda for heavy text messages and PDA functions.

Re: E70 Bluetooth Conection with Volvo S80

Hi

Agree, but I don't want to replace my mobile just because Volvo ist not even testing business phones (as E61). I will increase the pressure on Volvo Ceutomer Relationship VP and ask to fulfill the warranty conditions.

Re: E70 Bluetooth Conection with Volvo S80

Sokac12,

You are wise, the SE W880I has a problem with the reception. There is too much noise at caller's mobile and its taken many compliants before I tried it just now. Also tested with SE 910, and sharing the same undesirable noise. Two month old W880I shelved immediately. Return to Nokia 9300 and contacts were send 1 by 1 to the handfree with OPP. It connects better than the E70. This overview has W880I as almost perfect but it is far from the truth.

Re: E70 Bluetooth Conection with Volvo S80

[ Edited ]
Hi Ilych and other Nokia E series users!

Some good news for BT. I've purchased Nokia E71 (Bluetooth Stack version 2).
In comparison to my old E61, almost everything works perfectly (and my S80 BT SW has been updated in July 2008-means: not the very last version available):
- Caller Lists
- Operator Name displayed
- Signal Strength displayed-
THE BEST: Phone Synchronisation works well (even if you change a number in E71 it is immediately updated in Volvo BT).

Still does not work:
- Ringing tone from Nokia E71 (but I can live well with ring tones of Volvo BT)
- There is a hard limit of the number of contacts/phones still somewhere in Volvo BT (in my case, ca. 256).
Anyhow, E71 with Volvo BT is a dream (almost) and I hope the announced new Volvo BT SW version (release date sometime in December 2008) will remove this unpleasant obstacles.

Re: E70 Bluetooth Conection with Volvo S80

Hi Sokac12

Thanks for the update on your new purchase and findings, just returned from Volvo workshop and was told that the firmware has been updated per request to resolve E70 bluetooth problem.
After ignition the old phones connection settings remained in place where it should be erased but Volvo said that the settings will be restored despite firmware upgrade. !!!
E70 still cannot make and receive calls and listing cannot sync just like before upgrade N9300 cannot sync contacts and calls either.
E70/E61 and E71 runs on similar platform S60v3 and should be compatible unless Stack version 2 is the reason it works for E71.
Disappointing and a wasted trip to Volvo.

Re: E70 Bluetooth Conection with Volvo S80

Hi Ilych

A Happy New Year to you!
I indeed believe that the major problem lies in Bluetooth Stack, where version 2 at E71 worked at once while my old E61 failed (especially comfortable with call lists and phonebook synchronisation).
I am planning to do yearly maintenance early Feb 2009, so until then hope Volvo will come with the right version eliminating the still pending problems.

However, it is a shame how Volvo threats customers - just have a look at the latest test with Nokia E71 (Europe is my continent) at:

http://www.volvocars.com/intl/salesandservices/Bluetooth/Pages/default.aspx

There you can see that their test didn't discover that Call Lists and Phonebook Sync (except limited number of contacts) are working fine now!?

Next time when purchasing the new car, I will put BT functionality as the one of top priorities - do not want to loose anymore time with this issue.
