E51 wifi printing

Hi there,

i have problems to get my e51 to use the printer over wifi.

setup:

Nokia E51 with f-secure
pc win xp with enabled unix printing
Speedtouch 780 wifi pc connected with cable btw
Lexmark X 4550 wifi printer works like a charm.

my e51 is connected to my wifi as Voip phone, so that works
the printer is wifi and shared on my network.

the E51 is configured for lpr and all other settings that come with it.
Yet when i try to send a printjob to the network the phone gives me me a connection error.
No log's that i can find to even be able to see what might be wrong.

Anyone with a decent manual to get this working is verry welcome :smileyhappy:

Re: E51 wifi printing

I have a HP printer, which connects via the LAN to my wifi, and I could print without problems from my E51. It may not work for everybody though, because I have a feeling only certain types of printers are supported as I could only see a HP driver on my phone (?) but maybe someone else can clear that up.

Re: E51 wifi printing

I have printed 'successfully' with the E71 to a remote XP machine on my LAN with two printers attached (an HP DJ1220C and Canon MP 160). Both print using the "General" printer driver installed on the E71 from notes, SMS etc.

If I use the HP Mobile Printing driver, for the DJ1220C, I can also print from the native applications of the E71. However, if I try to print from QuickOffice something odd happens. Photographs print fine; text does not print at all. Hmm. Is this a problem with QuickOffice or the HP Mobile driver or my printer?

Just for anyone who does not have a day to waste looking for info on how to print from the E71, the settings are these.

Printer = Name of printer
Driver = two choices (HP or not HP)
Bearer = LPR
Access point = your wireless net
Host = DNS / IP of your host machine (with printer attached)
User = anything you like - I put 'E71'
Queue = either shared name of printer or as if appears to Windows

Oh and your host machine must have support for Lpr (Add / Remove Programs > Add/remove Windows components > Other network file and print services > next etc)

So, can anyone here help me with the next bit of this puzzle?

Ideally, I'd like to crack this one :smileyhappy:

Re: E51 wifi printing

Hi,
I have a HP PSC1315 All in one Printer connected to my home (WiFi) network thru D-Link DPR1260 Print Server. I'm trying to configure the printer in my E51 mobile using following config:

Printer: DPR1260
Driver: "HP Mobile Printing"
Bearer: LPR
Access Point: My Home WAN Access Point
Host: IP Addr of DPR1260 server(Static)
User: E51
Queue: psc1310 (as mentioned in DPR1260 config page)
Printer Model: "PSC Printers"

My E51 successfully connects with this config and also completes printing, but nothing gets printed on the printer. Can somebody please help.

Re: E51 wifi printing

marinvivas - If your Printer has a JetDirect (i.e. a netwokr cable directly into printer) you will have to choose something like this:

Printer:    Printer1
Driver:        HP Mobile Printing
Bearer:        Socket/HP Jetdirect
Access point:   (NAME OF YOUR CONNECTIONPOINT)

Host:        192.168.0.129 (THIS is the IP of your printer ! NOT the name)

port:        9100
(SNIP 5 paper settings)
Printermodel:    DeskJet 58xx Series Printer

Not sure about your printer model ... verify this yourselfs.

I found that hostnames do not work on my E66 !! onyl an IP-address  works

If your printer doesnt have cable or LPR then you can share the printer on a windows-PC and install the windows service-option called "Other Network File and Print Services" this must be installed.

Ensure that Add Other File and Print Services is installed

   1. Click Start and select Control Panels.
   2. If necessary, click Switch to Classic View.
   3. Double-click on Add or Remove Programs.
   4. On the right side, click on Add/Remove Windows Components.
   5. Scroll down. If needed, place a check in Other Network File and Print Services.
   6. Click Next. Click Finish.
   7. Close Add or Remove Programs window. Close the Control Panels window.

Then use these setting:

Printer:    Printer3
Driver:        HP Mobile Printing
Bearer:        LPR
Access point:   (NAME OF YOUR CONNECTIONPOINT)

Host:        192.168.0.129 (THIS is the IP of your printer ! NOT the name)

User:        guest

Queue:        HP-5652 (This is your printers share name)

(SNIP 6 paper settings)
Printermodel:    DeskJet 56xx Series Printer

Not sure about your printer model ... verify this yourselfs.

I found that hostnames do not work on my E66 !! onyl an IP-address  works

You might have to enable the guest account or create/use an account.

Hope you get it printing - i spent alot of time testing this ...

Re: E51 wifi printing

I'm facing the same problem as jvin. The phone successfully connects and completes printing but nothing gets printed on paper. My Samsung CLX 3175 FW confirms something by a beep sound but that's it !

Also I should mention that the Host is the IP of the PRINTER and not the IP of the host PC, as explained in the Nokia guide. I've selected the General driver.

Re: E51 wifi printing

The Only problem I see with the general driver so far is that it doesn't support printing of photos. However, it will print a text document.

I'm interested in finding a way to print photos using the GENERAL driver because when you preview the photos using the GENERAL driver, it basically fills up the paper in landscape mode. When using the HP MOBILE PRINTING driver the photo is smaller, taking up less than half of the paper whether the paper is set to portrait or landscape.

Anybody knows a workaround this ?

Re: E51 wifi printing

Hi,

I have a question, is it possible to print from e51 on a printer that doesn't have a WiFi, but is connected with a cable to a computer that has a wireless connection with a router? Maybe someone knows a program that is able to do that?

Regards

Re: E51 wifi printing

To HOMMER_PL:

I use my E51 to print and the the printer I print to do NOT have "Wi-Fi in it" (if that's what you mean). It's connected directly to my network switch via ethernet cable (LAN cable):

PRINTER:               HP Colour LaserJet CM2320fxi MFP

DRIVER:                 HP Mobile Printing

BEARER:                Socket/HP Jetdirect

ACCESS POINT:   default (this is your wi-fi router)

HOST:                      192.168.0.105 (this is the IP address of my printer...with the printer having a

LAN  connection it automatically assigns an IP address)

PORT:                       9100 (so far I have no reason to change this)

PRINTER MODEL: Colour LaserJet Printer

Re: E51 wifi printing

Not exactly. I don't have a LAN port in printer. The printer is directly connected to computer.

Re: E51 wifi printing

To HOMMER_PL:

Ok. Well I'm yet to get that aspect of it to work but I have a plan. Tomorrow (it's now 6:40 p.m. my time here in Jamaica) I will work on it and hopefully I will be able to give you an effective way of getting it done.

Some way, some how there must be a way of getting it to work via a USB printer and not just a LAN printer.

Re: E51 wifi printing

[ Edited ]

This is an old topic but am adding this for anyone else who like me finds themself here. After following all of the above information, my E71 still came up with connection error when printing via WiFi to a USB connected printer. This is the extra step I required.

In addition to installing the Unix  print services in Windows, you may need  to activate them as a service: Open Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Services (Local) and find TCP/IP print server. It should be set to "Status= started" and "Start type=Automatic". To change settings you double click the line "TCP/IP print server" and adjust appropriately.

This sounds obvious - when you know about it!

Settings for Nokia E61i with HP Deskjet 3050 which worked for me:

Printer: Any suitable name

Driver: HP Mobile Printing

Bearer:  Socket/HP JetDirect

Access Point: use router wireless network name (SSID)

Host: 192.168.1.106 (use the IP address of your printer)

Port: 9100
