So far, very few Nokias charge via USB port, and only those supplied with chargers that have USB connection (6500 Classic, 8600 Luna, N85 etc.). The N96 is not equipped with the hardware to charge by USB port.

In our case, the cable is only for PC connectivity.

However, the same cable is equipped to charge those phones that are capable (such as the N85), and is in fact the same one that is supplied with that phone.

There's a new cable now available on Nokia the CA-126(a multi-connectors cable) in which it charges the phone while connected by usb. It support N96 & other Nokia models.

Hi,

I have the following issue: the phone is 6500 classic and the USB cable is CA-101. If no Nokia software is installed on my PC (doesn’t matter if it’s Windows XP or Vista – tried on both of them) then the phone is charging, after I install PC suite I’m able to do everything I should but phone is no longer charging. Is there a way to make it charge while the software is installed?

Are you sure this charges?

Will it charge a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic? I'm pretty ****** off with Nokia for not provides a USB charging solution. I wonder many people like me are wasting money buying CA101 cables? I'm hoping that this "new" cable works otherwise i'm going to have to lug my mains charger around everywhere. LAME!

A CA-101 will not be able to charge a 5800xm because this model cannot be charged through it's USB port.  That is why it has a charger port.  

If you want USB charging for that model you need a CA-100, CA-126 or one of the many cheap 3rd party USB charging solutions.

My bad. I mean i have a CA-100 and it still doesn't charge.

Have you tried it in all of your PC's USB ports?

Some ports provide less power than others.

Alternatively, you can try plugging the CA-100 into a powered USB hub.

Tried every port in my Dell desktop pc.Front and back.

I did read somewhere else about fake CA-100 chargers.

There are a lot of fake CA-100's out there, especially on ebay.

I do not know if they work or not.
