Nokia 5230/Nuron 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter

I would like to be able to use an over-the-head headset with a 2.5 mm plug (the same kind used with cordless phones) with my Nokia 5230 (Nuron).  The Nokia has a 3.5 mm jack, thus an adapter is necessary.  I've scoured the web and found very little.  I tried an adapter called the Headset Buddy that failed to work with the 5230: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002SKAP46/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&seller=

It seems that the adapters out there only support the audio going from the phone to the headset, and not for carrying the microphone signal from the headset back to the phone.  (In otherwords, only to be used for listening to music.)

Does anyone have any suggestions or alternatives?

Hi Red_Baron

I think that this is what you are seeking:http://www.proporta.co.uk/F02/PPF02P05.php?t_id=928&t_mode=des

Re: Nokia 5230/Nuron 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter

scoobyman -

Thanks for suggesting the link.  I checked it out and it appears that adapter does not carry the microphone sound; it looks to only carry the audio for things like music.

The tricky part of looking online for an adapter for use with a standard 2.5 mm headset is that most sites are not clear that their adapters do not support the mic portion of a headset.  I generally assume an adapter does not support the mic unless the vendor goes out of their way to say otherwise (like the aforementioned Headset Buddy).

These proprietary interfaces used on cell phones are so frustrating.

Re: Nokia 5230/Nuron 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter

Since I started this thread, I thought I'd post back to this forum a solution I found for an adapter.  Specifically, I was looking for an adapter that would allow me to plug a 2.5 mm over-the-head mono headset with microphone into a Nokia 5230/Nuron.

What I found was an adapter Nokia sells called the HDA-12.  Its purpose appears to be more for TTY/TTD devices, but it works great with my headsets.  Even the microphone on the headsets work.  The HDA-12 has a 3.5 mm male end that go into the 5320/Nuron and a 2.5 mm female end for receiving the headset connector.

A description of the HDA-12 can be found at:

http://www.nokiausa.com/find-products/accessories/all-accessories/headsets/audio-adapters/nokia-tty-...

You an purchase the HDA-12 from Nokia at:

http://store.nokia.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/productdetail_10500_10101_-1_10000683

I do not know if this adapter would work with a stereo headset though, as my headsets are only mono (which is fine for voice calling).

Re: Nokia 5230/Nuron 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter

Thank you Red Baron for your great information on this topic.  I had been looking for an adapter for this very purpose ever since I obtained a Nokia 5310 (same 3.5mm connection), and now for my 5230.  I have a couple of wired mono single ear communications headsets ("handsfree"  as they are sometimes referred to) that I ofter prefer to use while driving instead of  my Bluetooth headset.  I don't have to think about charging them or turning on Bluetooth on the phone, and just leave one or the other in the car.  More convenient for me.

I was able to find an HDA-12 at a discount here in the States, and it seems to work fine.  I haven't yet had an incoming call while using it, but I have a suspicion that all audio will be routed through the earpiece, mainly referring to the ringer, which isn't really desirable, but I can live with it.  This is just a preliminary guess, however.

Once again, thanks, as I wouldn't have had a clue to what I was looking for!  Search engines and discussion forums are great!

Re: Nokia 5230/Nuron 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter

I'm glad I could help, Whacker7.  That's nice you could find the HDA-12 at a discount.  These adapters don't seem too readily available at other resellers.  Best of luck!
