MicroSD card compatibility

Hi, anybody know the answer?

I have 2 Nokia 6300s. One I use in the UK, one in Spain.

Couldn't understand why the Spanish one ran out of memory for photos so quickly, then realized it was not recognizing the micro sdcard. (Kingston)

So I tested the card with my laptop, no probs.

I then tried the Kingston card in my UK 6300, no recognition.

I tried the Sandisk card from my Uk phone in my Spanish one, no problem!

So I have now bought another Sandisk micro for my Spanish phone, now both phones are happy with plenty of memory.

I'm curios, so could anybody tell me why a Kingston sd card in perfect working order, won't work in a Nokia 6300 phone?

Re: MicroSD card compatibility

Welcome to the forum!

Not a definitive answer here although my experience of Sandisk microSDHC is that they never require formatting with Nokia devices and always work straight out of the packet.

If I've helped in any way, a click upon the white star at bottom right of screen would always be appreciated.

Re: MicroSD card compatibility

What size is the memory card in GB?

The 6300 does not support High Capacity Memory Cards, so only up to 2GB can be used. 4GB and above are high capacity (HC SD).

The 6300 was launched in early 2007 when HC SD cards were not yet available, the maximum then was 2G which I guess is / (could be) the reason for this.

That's it, thanks Confiture!

The Kingston was 4GB. Good job I bought a 2Gb sandisk for my second phone!

Re: MicroSD card compatibility

Hi, since a few days  I have got the NOKIA 3720 classic. Nice phone but too many questions.

I put in a 8gb microSd card. I hardly have anything on my phone, but whatever I do it says that there is no room, everything is full. Dont understand that at all, I put 10 pics in a map and now the map is full? I read somewhere that 8gb is the highest you can put in this phone, is this true? but for normal use 8gb should be enough or not? I had a samsung, had tons of everything in it but that one was still not full.

My other questions I have to ask on the right place....what a pity otherwise I could have written them all down at once, like the maps etc....

hope you can answer me about the 8gb anyway.

thanks....Karen

Re: MicroSD card compatibility

@karen03

Currently use 4GB microSDHC in my 3720 Classic with 2.83GB of OVI Map data installed, so not sure why you are experiencing such issues.
