Hi all
I use a Nokia 6021 with a 2006 UK Audi A6 Avant. the combination works very well - the full phone book, even showing correct icons for a contact's different Mobile / Home / Office numbers shows up in the MMI.
That's the good news. the bad news is that whilst the 6021 is a very acceptable basic phone, I prefer to use a 9500 or other smartphone - the 9500, E61 do not work with the Audi MMI in terms of the phone book. Why not? I really don't know and don't believe that in 2007 I should have to know.
So, currently, I use Vodafone multi-Sim which allows switching between multiple SIMS on the same number. However, Multi-SIM doesn't even allow GPRS, so there is no possibility of using this system with an email enabled phone.
Very difficult these days, DESPITE the technology to just have one device that (a) integrates with a corporate email system and (b) works in the car. Do none of these big companies ever talk to each other?? Do Nokia executives drive Audis? Do Audi executives use Nokia phones? A pretty pathetic performance from both in my view.
If it's any consolation to Audi drivers, the situation is to some degree worse with BMW & Mercedes in-car displays - these displays won't seem to allow multiple phone numbers per contact, so whilst they will read the phone book from a wider range of Nokia phones, you have to set up contacts such as Fred Mobile, Fred Home, Fred Office etc. How clever is that?!
