Nokia has today initiated a charger exchange program for the AC-3E and AC-3U models, manufactured between June 15, 2009 and August 9, 2009; and the AC-4U model, manufactured between April 13, 2009 and October 25, 2009.

It's only certain ones made by BYD that are affected. The ones made by other firms don't have this problem.
BYD is covering the cost of the replacements according to an article on the BBC website.

Correct, BYD only.
And, as I mentioned in my first post, the potential product quality issue concerns only a limited number of chargers that are manufactured within a certain period of time: AC-3E and AC-3U models, manufactured between June 15, 2009 and August 9, 2009; and the AC-4U model, manufactured between April 13, 2009 and October 25, 2009.

I picked this up on a BBC news report this morning which advised checking on Nokia's website. BUT first of all, it took some searching to track down the specific - and separate - website for the charger exchange scheme. At this moment, that site is NOT sign-posted from Nokia's main site. That's poor customer care ...
Second, just how many people have any idea what is the model number of their charger? It took some squinting with a bright light and a magnifying glass eventually to identify mine. There's no indication on the Nokia charger exchange site of what model of phones the affected chargers are intended to work with. Believe me, that's what every users will know, not the charger model number. It could help allay a lot of unnecessary concern if that information was provided up-front.

Hi Nokiabear,
thanks for your feedback. I've approached the website people and they will now make sure that the charger exchange website link will be more visible in Nokia's main sites.
Regarding the devices, just to clarify: this exchange does not impact any Nokia mobile device. It is only about these particular chargers which have been sold with a number of different device models.
Anyone not able to determine the identification number of the charger can bring their charger to their local Nokia Care point. The staff there will be able to assist.

Is this the small pin charger like the one for N95?

Hi,
the AC-3U, AC-3E and AC-4U chargers have the "small" 2mm DC plug. A similar 2mm plug is used in the charger models that come with the Nokia N95 sales package.
However, the AC-3U, AC-3E and AC-4U chargers subject to the exchange program have not been sold with the Nokia N95.
