Charger compatibility

I now have a Nokia 6230i, but have had other Nokia phones in the past. Conquently I have a few chargers. Is it ok to use any Nokia charger with any Nokia phone? I notice they have different output voltages and I am wondering about battery damage.

Re: Charger compatibility

Hi I have a 6230i also my wife has my old 6100. 6230 has a BL-5C & 6100 has a BL-4C, Any idea what the difference is? Also i have the same worries about using the same charger for both phones. I have just bought a dual charger for my 6231 that includes a BL-5C battery £6.49

Re: Charger compatibility

Hi happychap

The difference between the batteries is capacity. The 6230 and 6100 can be charged with the same charger. The rule is simple for Nokia chargers... if the plug fits the phone, it will charge the phone.

There is a new charger jack coming on new phone models (already on N70, N90 and a few others). The jack is smaller. When you buy one of these phones, the charger included in the sales pack is the new size. Also included in the sales pack is a small adapter cable (CA-44) which enables you to use your old (larger jack) charger with the new phone.

Re: Charger compatibility

Hi happychap

Yes. If it is a Nokia charger and the plug fits, the phone will be able to charge. Don't worry about the voltage.

Re: Charger compatibility

Hi,

This is actually not exactly true. There are two mobile chargers, and depending on the phone, they either support just one, or both.

If you try to use a wrong one, the phone just complains...

Re: Charger compatibility

Yes, friskis is correct. I guess I was slightly over-simplifying things.

My point is that you don't have to take the back off your phone, check what voltage the battery is, and then ensure that the charger matches it. If the charger plug fits the phone, then you won't do the phone any harm. There are some phone/ charger combinations which don't charge the phone, but at least you don't damage the phone by doing that.

Re: Charger compatibility

Thanks for that.
I have already bought a charger that should do both of our phones: Fingers crossed *~_~*

Re: Charger compatibility

I've just upgraded from a 3210 to a 6230i. Would it be OK to use the in-car charger kit for the 3210 with my mew phone?

Re: Charger compatibility

I have stuck with Nokia phones for the past 3 years for 2 reasons:
1. I have several chargers from previous phones and most family and friends have nokia handsets so when I travel to see them, I don't have to worry about forgetting to take a charger with me.
2. The user interface is familiar.

The N70 presents me with a similar interface to the 6630 that I had (the battery life was appalling) BUT a new charger connector, aghhhhhhh!!!

Why on earth did Nokia decide to change the adapter knowing full well that so many users rely on old chargers scattered around the house and relatives/friends houses/car-adaptors.

Motorola must be rubbing their sweaty hands together in glee at this faut-pas...

And why does the N70 (and the 6630) not feature the auto key-guard that older phones did - unless it's hidden away in some strange area that I haven't found yet...

Re: Charger compatibility

Hi droffilc

I don't know why there's no Auto keylock on N70.

If you want to use your old chargers, you can use the charger adapter which was in the sales pack.

Re: Charger compatibility

Thanks for the feedback. I have the charger adaptor BUT the point was that I now need to carry that with me when I travel in order to use the numerous chargers scattered around the world that are the old style...
I now need to accumulate around 8-9 of these to add to the adaptors that are all around my house, friends houses, my car, etc...
I still think this was a shot in their own foot by Nokia - I am seriously considering returning it to my friends at Vodie in favour of another handset...

Re: Charger compatibility

Hi,

In this topic you will find some autolock software, that will help with your N70.
