CK-300: some "ask-before-you-buy"

Good morning,
I would like to couple my N96 with car kit CK-300.

Some questions:

1) My Pioneer radio DEH-P4300RB is rather old (8yrs), nevertheless it sports an AUX input with an IP-BUS connection, a sort of plug (Pioneer specific). Pioneer does sell and IPBUS to RCA adapter (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-EFqzBGhBDtb/p_130CDRB10/Pioneer-CDRB10.html)
Do I need this input to connect the Ck-300 main unit to the radio?

2) Music playback is supported through blutooth audio streaming. What audio quality is expected from such a technolgy, compared to the phone connect directly to the radio with the 3.5 jack?

3) How much is the CarMenu supported and updated?

4) Is the CarMenu software TV-Aware? What if the TV is running and and an incoming call happens?

5) If CarMenu is not TV aware, probabily you can forward TV audio to speakers, through the 3.5 jack; in this scenario what happens if an incoming call is received?

6) Are there some smart ways to place the power cord and the audio 3.5 jacks, in a way they are retracteable, avoiding messy cables around the car?

7) Are there special advises to consider before buying?

Thanks for helping

No.

This is a user-to-user forum. The only Nokia staff who read it are the moderators and they don't have access to tech support. Everyone else is merely a user of Nokia products, just like you, and your query is pretty specific.

You could try the "Contact us" link to the top-right of all forum pages.

Re: CK-300: some "ask-before-you-buy"

1) You can download the manuals, including the installer manual, from the Nokia site (http://www.nokia.co.uk/link?cid=PLAIN_TEXT_1000003)

2) I use the previous generation (CK-20W) and use Bluetooth (with my E51) to play music through my stereo. I certainly can't tell the difference between wired and Bluetooth connections in terms of audio quality

6) Ask your installer - certainly the better ones will probably be able to find a solution that meets your needs

Re: CK-300: some "ask-before-you-buy"

I have downloaded the manuals. It looks like there's no need to buy the adapter, unless I'd like to connect the phone to the 3.5 jack to the auxiliary input of the car stereo.

It probably wouldn't be necessary to use such an input if the bluetooth audio quality is good, also thinking about the fact that CarMenu manages music only via bluetooth, so the AUX/3.5 cable connection comes unmanaged.

Thanks

Re: CK-300: some "ask-before-you-buy"

You will need to connect the stereo output of the ck-300 to the aux in of the car stereo if you want to hear any music.

The kit has two outputs, one mono for calls and one stereo for music.

It also has a 3.5mm input for wired music players such as IPods etc.

So you can stream music over Bluetooth A2DP or have a wired input. Either way, both are played through the stereo output of the kit and must go to aux.

Confiture, thanks for helping.
I have found the service manual for my radio here (click on thumbnail to enlarge):

It looks like the radio has some ISO connectors for the speakers and it looks like the Ck.300 will stand between the speakers and the radio, using the ISO connectors.

BTW looking at the Radio connectors, also a Phone-In plug is available (the user manual shows what happens when an a call is active, the radio display shows TELsomething, and user input is disabled on the radio)

According to the installation options, (number 2), if the radio supports a phone input, it is suggested to use the proper connections.

What it is unknown is if the AUX input is needed, apart from using music from the 3.5 jack.

I understand that you have said that IT IS necessary, but looking at the scheme, it seems that connector is needed only for the 3.5 jack; apparently the bluetooth music streaming doesn't use that connector.

Am I mistaken?

Re: CK-300: some "ask-before-you-buy"

Correct that the Nokia Mute cables will sit in the middle between the vehicle connector and the radio connector in order to send telephone audio to the fron two speakers. Also the yellow mute cable should be connected to the yellow mute cable on the car radio (20.)

However you will need to connect the stereo output of the ck-300 to aux in on the radio if you want to hear music from your phone or Ipod etc.

If no music is required then you can use the ck-300 as a simple telephone kit only.

Even if CarMenu is streaming audio through Bluetooth (as phone call audio)?

Yes, you must connect the 3.5mm stereo OUTPUT of the kit to aux if you want to hear MUSIC

The kit has a stereo 3.5mm INPUT for Ipod etc. but don't confuse the two.

Only the mono output for phone calls goes through the ISO cable to the front two speakers

Thanks!

So I'll need to buy an adapter to enable connection from Pioneer-Proprietary IP-BUS interface and the CK-300....

As on the documentation it isn't specified what kind of interface the CkK-300 uses to plug into the radio, I was wondering if someone knows what connector is needed...

There are some adapter for my AUX input, IP-BUS to RCA like this one:

Will it work?

The CK-300 has a 3.5mm socket on the control unit for aux connection so you will need a 3.5mm male jack on one end of the cable and female RCA on the other end.

With regards to the standard telephony integration, assuming the Pioneer unit (and the car) has a standard ISO connection, the CK-300's own inbox cable will connect with no additional cable needed.

Assuming the IP-Bus converter has two female RCA plugs, I'll need to buy also a 3,5 male to RCA male cable, as you suggest... hope the extra cable doesn't compromise too much audio quality...

Thanks for helping

Even better, use straight away a IP-BUS to 3.5 jack like this:

Another question here: does anyone know if the software on the Ck-300 supports N96'TV audio out, via bluetooth streaming?
