Hi people.

The NSU team have asked the Mods to pass on the following message:

Dear Updaters

The Nokia Software Updater is now ready to offer “Internet Edition” software for most standard Nokia N80 users. This software includes Mobile Search, Internet telephony (VoIP), Downloads client and Lifeblog.

Please note that after updating and restoring your own data, the new Internet folder will not be visible because you will have restored the standard N80 screen layout “on top” of the N80IE software. New N80IE applications are not deleted. They are still available and can be found in the My Own folder.

The Nokia N80 Internet Edition software may not be available for all variants. Check to see if an update is available for your own device at
http://europe.nokia.com/A4577224

The Internet Edition software version number is 4.0632.0.38.

And FOTA?It's a very cool feature but it seems like Nokia doesn't care with it very much

Is there any official way (a page, support email, etc) to contact Nokia about FOTA upgrades, and try to motivate them to keep the software updates synchronized with the ones available to NSU users?

ok so i take back what i said....my phone's bricked up, shcoked up, an dead out on me.
Completed the update using OTA, while restarting, phone just stayed stuck on the nokia start up screeen!!!
aslo readin same issues with others.

With alot of time, frustrations and trials.
Its alive.
I ran a hard reset.
Green, 3 an +
just keep doin it it will work.
turn phone offf....
then hold all 3 plus the power button, an just keep holdin those four....trust me it will work.!!!!!

i tried to update my N80 put it keeps telling me that there is no
software updates available for Your phone?!

The same here.I get
"No updates available"
when trying to update over-the-air.
FOTA is a little bit forgotten, i think

Hi,

I updated my phone yesterday. Mi first try was using FOTA, it found that an update was available and downloaded it (a 3MB update), unfortunately the process did not end well, after restarting the phone it was "bricked", so I had to perform a hard reset as other had to. After the hard reset the info stored at phone memory was gone, but the firmware was Nokia N80 Internet Edition.
To be sure everything was ok I repeated the update, this time using NSU, where I chose to reinstall the firmware (a 68MB update). Had no problems with that, now I have a brand new N80IE firmware and features.

Remember: DO backup your phone memory before ANY update, FOTA or NSU.

Is Nokia aware about issues when updating through FOTA?

I already have firmware version 4.06243.0.42 on my nokia n80. The version of firmware you wrote 4.0623.0.38 is lower than the version I already have on my phone. What shall I do in order to upgrade my phone to IE edition?

mobimaniak, use the Nokia Software Updater (a.k.a NSU), if you don't have it, just download it from Nokia and follow instructions.

You could use also FOTA (Firmware Over The Air) go to Menu -> Connect -> Device Mgr. Press 'options' and then 'check for updates'. Be sure you have a WiFi connection or an unlimited data plan if you want to use FOTA.

Regarding firmware version, it's different for N80 and N80IE. The latest version for the N80IE is 4.0632.0.38.

Hi I have had nokias for years and never had a problem with software so far(fingers crossed) Current phone is a 6230i and it has V3.88.
I am about to upgrade and get a N80 phone and i see the software version for it and similar phones have gone to V4.0632.0.38 format for the software. Can you tell me why there are so many numbers in the software version now? Why not just 4.06 or 4.07 or 4.08 and where do all those decimal places come from? Does it actually mean something? and if so what?
Does anybody know?

This is great news!! Now I wonder if this will include other devices such as the N73.

I work for an International IT Company as a Customer Services Manager for Latinamerica, I know very well how difficult is sometimes for a big company fulfill every customer wishes.

I was very happy with my N80 (my company sells Windows Mobile based Smartphones, but I prefer Symbians), but now, after upgraded to N80ie, I really think that Nokia people did a great job, N80 users asked for N80IE software, you give it to us. Congratulations Nokia, well done!

Now, I have one more wish, give us the chance to buy to you a powerful battery, and I will really think that you learn from customers.

Not all customers have this privilege.For example, i'm waiting since last year and til now, no update in FOTA.

As for N80 to N80IE, for my phone, there's no update available.And i don't know if it'll be available someday

3 questions:
1.)
You write :

Are this a typo ? shouldnt the correct version be
4.0623.0.38 ?

2.)
I would like to hear from users with N80ie if they work with EAP-LEAP or EAP-PEAP on wifi/wireless

3.)
I would like to know if I choose to update ti ie and EAP still isnt working, can I revert to normal N80 with the fw 4.0623.0.42 20-09-2009 RM-92 N80 (03)

Hi guys,

My phone nokia n80 product ID = 0535101(version:4.0623.0.42) and I can not upgrade it to internet edition. In fact when I try to upgrade it through FOTA I get a message that there is not any available update for my phone.

Please help. What shall I do in order to upgrade my phone to n80 ie?
