Congratulations.
It seems you have an even newer version...42 dated September.

I was able to exchange my dead phone.But would not dare to upgrade...
I have the V 4 ... 41 N80(11)

I think I read somewhere on here that FOTA is something that your network needs to support so it may be that it's only visible on the V4 firmware if your network supports it.

I've read that somewhere in here too, but when I do try to update via FOTA, it actually says there are no new updates.

Regarding the network supporting it I don't understand how that can makes a difference. I connect to FOTA via WLAN and surely it cross references with your current firmware and product code, not your SIM or operator?

However, I am just speculating...

Maybe it's to do with variants... I'm on (58.01) which is different to (01). They must have found some fix that the Generic UK firmware required. I did the FOTA using my WiFi connection at home but it also showed up earlier in the day on my 3G connection - it was 1.2MB in size.

It asks you to download and then starts an installer - the phone reboots and you get an update progress bar (much like on iPods when they reset) and then the phone reboots to 'update successful'. All pretty painless.

1.2Mb, yeah sounds like a minor fix, as the V3 to V4 update was 101Mb.

58.01 is a UK specific generic firmware, where as 01 is EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) generic firmware, containing language pack 1; English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Portugese.

Interesting stuff, my V3 to V4 update was 75MB, and then the update to 0.42 was 1MB.
I have 58.01.

You could be write about the minor update only being required on the 58.01.

I have tried to run the software updater but find it hangs on startup - the blue bar is animated, but nothing happens. And as there are no menu items it is impossible to close without going through Windows Task Manager to kill it.

Does anyone else have the same problem?

You bet!

Press Esc and it lets you exit then!

For somne reason it worked a couple of times for me but now it just hangs.

I just found the asian site for Nokia updates, The phone list is a bit different, I own a N80 from hong kong (46.02) haven't tried it yet on the asia site, but it does not work on uk/europe site...

I had the same problem, I think this a fault with either your installation of java or flash player (? do you get an error message in the lower right corner of your browser)

Try http://nds1.nokia.com/files/support/global/phones/software/NokiaSoftwareUpdaterSetup_en.exe to directly download it. Hope it works for you - I can't update my O2UK-version N80.

I didn't have the same problem, however the problems I had were solved by uninstalling PC-Suite, downloading the latest version and reinstalling. Now I just have to wait for my network - Vodafone - to get their finger out and produce their versoin of the update ..

Hi everyone

i have a N80 (black) Sim free,

current version:

V 3.0617.0.6

just did a software upgrade, it took about 20mins for everything to download and said it completed successfully to the V.4........ software.

BUT AS SOON AS THE UPGRADE WAS OVER THE UPDATER SOFTWARE SAID UPDATE SUCCESSFUL AND I CAN USE MY PHONE. BUT THE SOFTWARE DID NOT UPDATE PROPERLY BECUASE THE IN PHONE MENU SCREEN HAS NOW DISSAPEARED! ALSO THE PHONE KEEPS REBOOTING EVERY COUPLE OF MINUTES!

SO I'VE JUST TAKEN IT TO MY NOKIA REPAIR CENTRE IN SHEFFIELD AND THEY SAID COME BACK TO COLLECT IT IN A FEW DAYS.... SO HOPEFULLY IT SHOULD BE REPAIRED! FINGERS CROSSED!

ONE THING I HAVE LEARNED AND HAVE READ FROM THIS FORUM IS THAT THE NOKIA SOFTWARE UPDATER IS IN MY OPINION STILL IN ITS BETA STAGE AND IS NOT 100% GAURANTEED YOUR PHONE WILL BE UPDATED NOR IS IT 100% GAURANTEED THAT IT WONT DAMAGE YOUR PHONE!

AND YES I AM A PC ENTHUSIAST AND DID FOLLOW THE WHOLE PROCEDURE CORRECTLY!

Hey,

Just updated my N80 RM92 (49.01) to V4.0623.0.41! Very happy they made the update for 49.01.

Although I am getting the web page crashes a lot less often, I still got it once. Anyone still get crashes from time to time with V4?
