Dear Nokia, That’s it, I’m done. I have tried to keep up my side of this relationship but you however have not! I’m leaving you……I’m leaving you for someone else, I’m not sure who yet but I cant carry on like this…(I may even consider an iiiipho no. I can’t bring myself to say it) …..it’s not you its…..Oh no wait…..its YOU! You are the problem!
I have been a Nokia fan for many years and I have owned so many phones mostly Nokia’s (N97 5800XM, N78, N95, 5210, N80, N70, 6680, 6600, 8310, 6610, 5510, 6510, 3330, 3310, 5110...to name a few!) I’ve been with you through the good and bad years, I’ve spend my hard earned cash on upgrarding to the latest models, always dealing with the bugs and problems that an early adopter has to deal with but enough is enough.
Its been a hard few years being a Nokia fan, seeing others with jealous eyes, with their lovely UI’s and sunning designs. But I and others like me kept the Nokia faith! Hoping and waiting for our reply to that apple thing. Then a reply came along with the 5800 which I and most other diehard fans rushed to buy and yes it was ok but alas wasn’t what we had hoped. We thought that the s60 5th would get better and we stuck with it. We stuck with the laughs from our peers about the rubbish design and bad UI, we stayed true when people wet themselves over double tap design issue. But hope came once more in the form of the N97.
After announcing the phone (what seemed like) 3 years in advance and waiting a lifetime to get it, again we were left feeling slightly disappointed. Where was the wow factor? A work horse yes but never a show pony! On paper it should be a great player but like Michael Owen it never quite hit the spot. Again we bared the laughs and grins from the apple lot and now the droid lot too but again another new carrot arrived…. version 2.0! (maybe just maybe) this is the answer to our problems…….(more on that in a mo)
** A bit of background for you Nokia, I’m on of those high end buys that I hear Nokia need to keep hold of. After all your market share and profits have been hit of late. I’m the type of geek that read 10 different tech web pages each day dedicated to mobile phones, nokia and symbian, just to see what’s coming soon. I pay you good money to buy phones out of contract (as I cant wait), phones that cost upwards of £500! So you should be looking after the geeks like me.
So the 2.0 day arrives and read the reviews and get excited that my N97 will finally be what it should have been at day one…..i then realise that because I’m in the UK I cant get the update when everyone else does so never mind I wait some more (ok the wait was shorter that v12)…..Then a new day comes when 2.0 is finally here……JOY!
I begin the process at 9pm (thinking it could only take an hour) After a bad experience with the v12 upgrade I back everything up and follow the best advice to do a hard reset on the device before the upgrade and what do you know!!!! Its all gone pete tong wrong! So where am I now? After spending the whole night trying to sort it out, well I’m now left with an expensive paper weight.
To sum up the issues, the mass memory has corrupted, losing (albeit I hope temporary) all my photos and music and oh wait what’s this…..my 16gb Microsd has been corrupted too! Losing more data (I think its fooked and I can see me getting it working again). Yes i should be able to format the Mass Storage bt should i have too??? Really??? Do iphones do that when they upgrade???
I’ve basically spent the whole night trying to get a working phone and I cant do this **bleep** anymore! Are Nokia going to give me my time back? Are Nokia going to make this **bleep** feeling go away? Am I going to get my money back? No to all of the above!
So I’m off, I will bring my hard earned cash to someone else, maybe HTC will want it and in return give me a device that work and upgrades without problems? I know this is one large rant but at some point people, geeks and Nokia will have to listen. You cant really keep pushing us like this. I’m not alone with these issues there are hundreds of forums with people like me having issues again with a 'high end' Nokia.
So that’s it, eBay for the phone, the cupboard of despair for my old love of Nokia and a bright new beginning for me and someone else. It’s that simple, we will vote with our feet!
And before the posts start coming in about how well your upgrade went and how you had no issues and that i should just suck it up....thats not the point of this post. Its deigned to be a rant in the vain hope that someone will see it! Or think "do you know what ive had enough too!" Its the only way they will learn!
Bye bye Nokia, (rant over)

Hi, quick question. Since you have made a backup - as what you have learned from your v12 upgrade, what does it matter if your memory is corrupted and hence lost all your photos and etc.? Can't you restore them from your backup?

I think its to do with Daves post #2. They are censoring this post by removing the Kudos button just so people cant thank the original poster in agreement. Nokia are plummeting lower than a gnats nagger. Greigster

Perhaps it's because consumers ought to be able to expect a "high end" £500+ "Smart" phone to not do stupid **bleep** like that? Your response sounds like a typical Nokia mentality - screw the consumers, they should just put up with second rate rubbish. As for the missing Kudo buttons: even though this site is "for users by users" or some other **bleep** and has "nothing to do with Nokia" as the non Nokia staff members (honest) would have us believe, Nokia may have deemed that this thread might somehow put consumers off from buying an N97 or 5800 and perhaps might want to prevent it from getting too much attention. Hold on, that would mean that Nokia actually monitor these forums so that can't be true because other members keep insisting this is the case. Actually, Nokia would probably just have the thread deleted if they wanted to. In that case, it's just another Nokia software "feature" that they seem so keen on and good at these days. Perhaps it will get fixed in a year or two. Message Edited by dwedgbury on 04-Nov-2009 09:17 AM
