Hello,

As i gathered from different sources, the new v.20 firmware will be available from tomorrow.

i have been using this forum for a while now and i have seen different complaints and different posts regarding software update problems.. and so on, including mine.

I know there must new posts in few hours from now regarding the new v20 update.

As a piece of advice, i suggest that its a good idea for one to take a good look at most of the complaints of the people that will try to upload this new firmware and learn one or two things before they try to update cos from what i have learned here, most of the users have the same problem.

am not yet one of the peeps here that solve problems in this forum but i can offer to help if i could.

In conclusion, i can't wait to have the new firmware, and am sure errone feels the same.

If I was you i'd take those sources with a pinch of salt as there is no guarantee that v20 will be released tomorrow. V20 isn't even on nokia's RDA yet, all past N97 firmwares have appeared on there first.

The general feeling amongst those in the know is that the many rumours are not true, including the "leaked" release schedule. There's a rumour that the rumours were created by someone just to have a laugh.

Time will tell...... 

I don't believe I would get it anytime soon, even if it is really relsease tomorrow, thinking of how I got the last update. The point is to make people aware of what might go wrong, cos many of us rush to update without first asking questions...

I agree with the spirit of what you're saying. From my recent experience with V12, from now on I will always make a full backup before doing any more firmware updates, whenever they arrive.

In the excitement of the release, people might forget to take precautions.

darn.. new NSU support for N900..

I wonder if that means no more maemo updates from Linux/Mac? I've never used windows to update the firmware on the 770, N800 and N810.. I was really hoping I wouldn't need to start with the N900..

In the "Firmware Updates in the UK - Campaign for Equality" someone with a "nokia" icon next to his name has come (yes, oficial person from Nokia!).

Anyway, he said:

"I am not sure about the origin of the above but what I can say is that the schedule is incorrect.

We are for sure putting the N97 PR2.0 out for public download as soon as possible. PR2.0 will be a major overhaul of the PR1.x baseline. In fact, there is so much new stuff included that we will first introduce PR2.0 via NSU. The schedule for PR2.0 is still not verified, but I'd expect to find the open market versions being distributed by the end of this month (this is not a promise). You will  be notified of the new SW availability via myNokia (are you a member yet?) and the in-built SW update application on your N97, which will notifiy you about new firmware releases in NSU and/or FOTA as well as core application updates such as Maps etc.

FOTA updates to PR2.0 will follow in due course.

I know that there is a lot of anticipation for this release and therefore we are putting an extra effort to ensure that your update experience will make it worth the waiting.

In addition to the above, next week we are introducing the latest version of the NSU client so be aware that you will have to update your currently installed version. The main changes in the new client include support for the N900 product as well as some minor improvements."

What does it mean ( support for N900 product )

No update here far east asia guys... hope they solve most of all major/minor problems of the N97...

It just means there will be an Update to the Software Updater application on the PC to make it compatible with the N900.

Nothing special. you'll just get the usual message saying there is a newer version of the updater availabl when you run NSU on your pc
