I recently purchased a new Nokia 3120 Classic (product code: 0555309). The alarm clock was working beautifully out-of-the-box. But being the IT nerd that I am, I had to go ahead and firmware upgrade. The phone is now on the newest software (firmware) version 7.16 - but now the alarm is malfunctioning.

The alarm is set to wake me up at 5.55 AM, monday thru friday. The following how happens at weekdays at 5.55 AM:

1)
The alarm goes of.

2)
"Snooze" or "Stop" can no longer be selected. The menu still says "Go to", "Menu" and "Names".

3)
Any key will shut off the alarm.

4)
The screen is flashing and keeps flashing after the alarm is shut off. The only way to stop the screen flashing is to turn the phone off and back on.

This only happens when a actually need the alarm. If I set it now to go of in one minute everything works as designed. But when I set the alarm to go of at 5.55 AM and plug it into the charger - it doesn't work at 5.55 AM. ??? No, it is not because I am tired :-)

Has anyone seen anything like this or know of a solution?

sorry, i have not seen any solutions for the problem you have stated, but think about it, it is not such a major bug is it? are there any other problems with your phone?

don't worry, at least the alarm is helping you out, by not letting you go back to sleep when it goes off, that way you are not late for work!! :smileyvery-happy:

Hello,

I also have a alarm problem on my 3120 classic. When i use active standby then there is no snooze button if the alarm goes, every button deactivates the alarm permanent. When i disable active standby then the middle button is snooze. I really want to use active standby and i want snooze. Hope somewone can help me.

Yes I also have another problem.

When using the music player the screen does not update.

That is - when I select an album, artist or playlist etc. and select play then the first song is shown on the screen - but the screen does not update when the next song and the next and the next etc. is played.

It seems that there is something wrong with the 3120 classic alarm and I can't believe Nokia doesn't fix it with a new firmware. In fact, Nokia says that the lastest firmware version is 6.20 when mine has 7.16. My girlfriend has another 3120 classic and she is also experimenting some screen light flashing problems so she is about to return her phone.
Nokia, we need a newer firmware version!

Iam also experiencing this problem. I think it has something to do with charger, especially with message "save the nature - unplug charger - battery is full". Everytime I see that message, there is pretty big chance my phone starts behaving crazy. And its not only alarm problem mentioned above, I have also seen missed call that wasn't displayed at all :smileysad: Solution is simple, just reboot your phone after you unplug the charger. But its annoying. Very annoying. If I only find a way to disable that stupid message :smileysad:

COME ON NOKIA, FIX BUGS IN YOUR SOFTWARE!

xeerf, I have the same problem too: "I have also seen missed call that wasn't displayed at all".

If I reset the phone everything goes right, but only for a few hours.

Please, everybody sing: COME ON NOKIA, FIX BUGS IN YOUR SOFTWARE! :smileytongue:

hi to kaastrup & evry1,

i have exactly the same alarm problem as u have. i had gone to nokia care guys, they told to get my firmware upgraded.

but the problem is that i have version 7.16 on my cell and they also have the same version. when i told them that what will be the use, they told me that some file of my firmware must be corrupted and if i re-install the same version again, prob will get solved.

i am confused whether i should go for it or not.

any suggestions from u all are most welcome.

planning to get it done next week after receiving yr replys, lets see what happens, will let u guys know the result.

I was told exactly the same thing. I went ahead and re the 7.16 firmware to my phone, but it didn't make any difference.

But I would like to know if it works for you.

I have the same problem, its only happens when the message comes up about saving energy.

If this can be removed, the problems goes away

According to a Nokia service centre, there is a new firmware available for rm-364, v.8.30. This update is not available through the software updater (yet) though.

Really annoying that Nokia does not post changelogs and info on firmwares like any other hardware company.

I had version 7.16 re-installed by Nokia just to make sure it was not a corruption, it still has the same problem.

i have a 3120 classic also, first the screen would flicker alot while making calls, sent it to NOKIA, now again when it came back, the software got stuck, sent again to NOKIA. now i believe they have replaced it for me with a new one. have yet to go and get it from them.

you do the same. send it to NOKIA CARE LINE

According to Nokia website there is new firmware 09.41 available. But it won't let me update right now, it keeps throwing error "unable to retrieve phone information". Is it working for you people?

Yes, it's working with the latest updater software. Be sure to choose pc-suite mode when connecting the phone with the usb cable and turn off any security locks prior to installing the new firmware.

It's still not working for me. I've made fresh pc suite and software updater install, but same error all the time. I've even tried it on other pc, nothing. I understand pc suite mode, but could you be more specific about security locks please ? Btw pc suite is working well over cable.
