I posted this question here last week Nokia know there is a problem.

I asked.

"Is there anyway I can get a/some plastic film protector for the internal display? I seem to spend a lot of time wiping off grease that gets from the key board/fingers onto the screen as the keys appear to actualy touch the screen when the case is closed.
I am in Finland and I asked the TeliSonera phone shop they said they would ask Nokia...."

When I asked my supplier, TeliaSonera they said they have had several complaints and reported it.
I dont think you have scratches it is just grease marks.
I use an eye glasses cleaner that I get from an opticians shop and the marks can be removed.

No answers are forthcoming from Nokia.
Kudos!

I have the same problem, and have been told that in the newer E90 versions there is a new type of keypad surrounding on them. So there is allready a new solution. I just wonder why the first one have this bad surrounding. I think there is also a problem in the hinges, because the last row of buttons is touching the screen too. Have seen in the discussions on one Finnish site that the gap between buttons and screen is now bigger in the new version.

If you put a film protector in between, the problem will be even worse and what about the warranty then???

I will also send mine to the service center and I hope they will fix it. I have really bad markings on the screen. They are not possible to remove with any screen cleaner. Othervise the phone has been about OK....

The problem is with the screen touching the keyboard, right? So, adding another layer on to the screen (ie. a film protector) will bring the screen even closer to the keyboard when it is closed! That's what jpokki means.

This is true... but really, there isn't a problem with grease on the screen in the E90 (anyone who's had to wipe off a Treo or an iPhone would understand how easy we E90'ers have it). The problem is that the grease CAN attract dirt, dust, and other abrasives that will stick to the grease and thus, if you're not careful wiping it off, you CAN physically scratch the screen.

Hence, putting a screen protector on the E90 is a good idea. Sure, you may have to wipe it off more often, but at least you're protecting the screen from scratches.

To solve the screen scratching problem I have pasted a sticker I prepared with multiple layers of PVC stickers up to about 1mm thick and cut to a strip of 4mm width, on the frame below the lower part of the keyboard. This does the samefunction as that of the two rubber pads outside the inner screen, but gives little bit more clearance. Since, the sticker is long enough, the pressure is also distributed rather than concentrated at two places in the case of the two rubber pads.

guys, here in india, we have 3M films cut to specifications made and sold as a packaged product and its called scratch guard. its available as a pack for both the outer and the inner screens. the 1st thing that i did when i got the fone was to put it on. its about 1/3 of a mm and hence is cool. yes, the keypad touches the screen but i would rather wipe the screen protector than the screen itself. they give a super quality cloth to clean the screen which is chamoine leather with the fone, but i also got a similar one with the screen protector !!

it should be available in "the mobile store" or any of the leading mobile resellers. its called scratch guard and should cost u around Rs.400 for both the outer and the inner put together.

For the others Rs.400 would roughly translate to $10 or Euros> 8

I think I am misunderstood. I did not mean screen guard, as it is not going to solve the problem of keys touching the screen, but worsens the case. what I basically did was to increase the separation between the keyboard and the screen, without altering any ofthe physical construction ofthe device. It simply stops the folding of the screen before it reaches the designed final position by about 1 mm, but, after the switching from the inner screen to outer screen taken place. Once, the clearance is sufficient enough, which is the actual problem here, one can put a screen guard film to protect the screen from any other modes of scratching.

Have a nice time.
Kudos!
